Incredible Job,to say the least. In comparing the Before and After pics it would appear as if you were glancing thru a magazine.

What You Have Accomplished is Simply Amazing you have taken this space and made it appear to Come Alive with its look and feel. The atmosphere it exudes states Class with a Capital "C".

I must admit you are an Extremely Talented Individual when it comes to asthetics.

I totally agree 100%... the wood trim is perfect...

Where in Milwaukee are you, Liquid? Feel free to PM me if you prefer. I'm actually out in Waukesha and work downtown.

Place looks great. Wish I wasn't so lazy- we'd do some painting in our living room.

No, just have been around a bit. Although I am partial to Madison, I've had plenty of fun in the Milwaukee area as well.

Living in Tosa, working out at Bayshore in Glendale. And you should paint!...it was actually quite fun, and I've never really been fond of it before. It's cool to see how much you can transform a room within a days worth of work. I have more art I'll be putting up too once I move the lady and little lady here.

Heh, only joking. I've enjoyed Madison the few times I've had to stop in there for work.

Bayshore? No joke, you work less than 5 minutes from me. I work out of the same building that the Whitefish Bay Public Works is out of over on Lydell Ave. We should get together for lunch sometime.

Wow, I love your new place liquid! Fantastic job!

The room colors look really nice with your couches.

How is the sound compared to your old place?

Johk, been waiting for you to come around here! Once again, you were inspiration for me. I knew I wanted grey behind the tv for when I get my 'real' bias lighting in place, the neutral color will help with image perception, but I decided on the darker grey accent wall after seeing your living room transformation. So, that's twice now you've inspired me, and I thank you for that. The sound is wonderful, so much more detail (not sure why), and the bass is brand new to me, very tight, and seems to hit lower too. I have some acoustic foam I might be playing around with soon, I just don't want to damage my new walls, so I'll be figuring that out soon. For now, the bass traps in every corner really help with keeping that bass nice and tight.

New place could have less nulls, standing waves, etc. Another bonus!

Well I've been busy at work and I did some work around the house too so my time on this forum (and also my music/movie listening time) has been limited. But I see you've been busy too! Moving and setting up your HT again must have taking some time on your part. I can only imagine how time consuming moving must be (and how anxious you must have been to set everything up and rolling). Just last week I spent at least 2 hours reorganizing my wire to accommodate my new EQ and I will be ordering new cables (custom lengths from BJC) probably this week so I will probably need to spend another 2 hours putting them in.

Thanks for your kind remarks, I think that everybody picks ideas from everybody and that's why this community is so interesting. There's always something to improve!

Anyway, it's really great to see that your new room has improved your soundstage. Your previous room probably had more absorption (carpet, drapes, furniture). Other aspects (room dimensions, wall construction, etc) also greatly influence your soundstage. Absorption is good but too much will give you a dead room... And I think you can't go wrong with the bass traps in the corner. As for the acoustic foam, usually they go at the first reflection point which is probably in the vicinity of your window on the right wall so in that case thick curtains will probably help (and perhaps some acoustic foam before the window), thick curtains for the back window and perhaps use the acoustic foam at the reflection point on the ceiling and behind the front speakers (you're lucky to be able to do this, I still need to convince my gf to do this but right now with my recent purchases I need to slow down a bit). I don't see your left wall but if it opens to another room then treating the right wall will "make it disappear".

curtains are coming soon, and yes the room does have the opening on the left into a hallway, and the bottom of the stairs. Didn't put pics of that up yet because I was hiding all my painting supplies and ladder exactly there! How do you mean the wall will disappear. The right wall? Oh, and I probably won't get away with too much foam either. I've done all this setting up before the lady moves in, so that way she is stuck with what I've done! I don't think she will go for too much foam though, I'd have to dress it up somehow, cloth covering, or maybe like how JJ arranged his to look like a column. We'll see, I don't want to jack the walls up either.

Wow - that looks stunning ! I know you said about getting the rugs, but it seems almost a shame to cover up that beautiful floor, even though it'll help the sound a bit.

Have you thought about the wall treatments behind the JBL's ? If you like the sound you have now mate, then I'd forget about it. It might kill the lovely aesthetics of the room for a negligible difference ? Only my personal thoughts, but it is still a living room, and it looks like you've got the perfect balance in there already.

Very nice indeedy.

That is actually a Lack bookshelf from Ikea with Capita legs screwed on the bottom, also from Ikea. Two of the included bookshelf shelves are left out of the construction to allow for the components to fit. Johk's original idea, not mine.

I in fact put up another thread in the Audio Theory section about whether or not to put up foam behind the JBL rear surrounds, but I'm thinking the rear corner placement might actually be helping with surround ambiance. Unless you were talking about behind the Boston Acoustics towers? I'm gonna mess around with some foam I have this week to see if it ruins my feng shui

How are the acoustics in the room due to the wood floor? Is the floor solid wood or wood laminate? I have a friend who has wood laminate and the bass is often too much due to the space between the laminate and the old wood floors underneath. I was wishing to move back to wisconsin but #1 I dont know if my costa rican wife could adjust and #2 I dont know how the job situation is now after all thats happened. I worked at Deluxe Media in Kenosha Wisconsin for over 9 years but had to move hear when my father was diagnosed with cancer. IŽd have to think it through very well.

That's the thread I saw your query on, but decided to post it here . The JBL mini monitors. Don't ruin your feng shui if you don't have to !!
