Can´t wait to put my hands on this copy of New York Ripper and, like many said before, looking forward for more Argento, Bava, Fulci, Soavi, and all the great italian directors on blu.

In the case of Argento, more specifically, i think that they´re kind of warming up with the releases of lesser-known titles, to bring on the heavy ones later.

Wouldn't call The Bird With The Crystal Plumage a lesser known title... Many fans holds this as his crown jewel, and I think the only Argento title that has made some kind of "known to all" reputation is Suspira.

So those who know about Tenebre, Opera and Phenomena, sure know about The Bird With The Crystal Plumage as well.

As for Uncle Sam, Lustig directed it, and Larry Coehn wrote it. It fits in perfectly with Blue-Underground. I know its not as good as his other movies, but I still enjoyed it.

Now Hit List and Vigilante are on my wish list. Id also kill to get a Maniac Cop trilogy released on blu.

I just got Dead & Buried in the mail literally 5 minutes ago. It's my first Blue Underground title on blu-ray, though I do have a few of them on DVD. It was also a blind buy for me, and I can't wait to check it out. Unfortunately, my HDTV crapped out on me a few days ago, and now I have to wait for it to get repaired to watch the movie. Hopefully next week sometime.

Yes, they have all been region free so far. I doubt this will change.

Maniac Cop 1 being Exhibit B that Larry Cohen could infuse a little bit of sneaky cool into ANY B or C-thriller, no matter how micro-budget.
Nowhere near the level of "The Stuff" or "Best Seller", but you always know when Cohen's had his hand on the script.

Speaking of Blu Underground...

I sent a letter to Blu Underground, Criterion and Anchor Bay to check into aquiring rights to a film that has been so overlooked. Do any of you remember "High Risk" (1981) a film where James Brloin, Clevon Little and a few others (just everyday guys) go to South America and rob a drug Lord played by James Coburn. Then they run into Bandits led by Anthony Quinn. The Tag line was "Getting in was easy, getting out was hard". Anyway the film is public domain I believe and its been put out on DVD by several different companies with VHS or worse quality Pan and Scan (those 3.99/5.99 jewel case) titles. It was originally "American Cinema" that released it in the theater and I know Anchor Bay has released a few of those. I would just love to see this film cleaned up and given at least a 16x9 presentation on Standard DVD.

BU BDs seem to generally split people regarding thier quality. In a no-DNR person myself, but theres been a lot of complaints on onter fourms about BU BDs being excessively over-griany. Givne that it seems to affect so many titles, I think it's a telecine issue, rather than genuine filmgrain. Anyway, NYR and LDAMM seem to imporve on these issues.

Personally I was going to get NYR until I saw the screen grabs, and found it rather lacking in contrast. It just looked flat to me, and also turned out to be missing one scene which is inlcuded in all the European DVD releases of the film. I've decided to give it a miss and go for the AWE DVD from Scandanavia instead, which is complete, packed with extras and apparently upscales beautifully.

I'm really looking forward to getting the BU BD of LDAMM though, I have the Anchor Bay UK DVD which is a nasty NTSC to PAL conversion, as so many of our DVDs here sadly are, especially from Anchor Bay and Tartan.

What I like about the Blue Underground releases is that they really do care about delivering hi quality product to the fans. This isn't always the case when it comes to dist companies.

My favorite release so far is easily Fire and Ice. That movie literally jumps off the screen. I also have New York Ripper which again, has hi image quality.

Have you guys noticed though that the special features are thin? They're clearly holding out for special editions, which sort of sucks.

Yeah, i noticed that too. I was hoping Fire and Ice would have the Frazetta docu that was included with the limited edition DVD, but sadly it wasn't. However, the Fast Company blu had everything that was on the limited DVD, including Cronenberg's early shorts, Stereo and Crimes of the Future (in SD).

So far Blue Underground's products have been top-notch. The only blu of theirs i didn't care for was Two Evil Eyes. Besides being a little too grain heavy, there were scenes in The Black Cat segment where the audio seems to get turned down somehow, and people sound as if they're talking from the next room.

The people who complain about grain on some of the Blue Underground titles have to be people who don't like grain... period. Blue Underground have always been known for putting love and care into theire releases, and I have most of the Blu-ray's they have released so far, and they all look they way they're supposed to be.

If you don't like grain, buy a Disney animation.
