You could have taken the guy over to one of their computers connected to the internet. Why let his idiocy bug you? I'd laugh in his face and want to hear more.

If they piss you off then:
1. Ask for their employee ID number or name for when you contact the corporate office.
2. Contact the corporate office.
That's what I did when someone said "Merry Christmas" to me. After speaking with the corp they changed it to "Happy Holidays".

you are not alone. after shopping there for years, i just decided boycott them. some in part due to their customer service. but most in part due to their inflated prices. they used to be my favorite store but now they're electronic hell. i'll go there to do research on new products but buy elsewhere.

Hello is probably copyrighted, lol, so I wouldn't doubt it. I know that it is illegal to sing happy birthday, because it is a copyrighted song, that's why they never sing it at restaurants when you tell them its your birthday.

Don't believe me, check this link

Yeah, Best Buy blows and so does Circuit City. They are both very over priced and no one knows a thing. If you live on the west coast you should go to Fry's Electronics. It's the Costco of electronics, the store is awesome. They have great customer service, employees who actually know what they are talking about and very good prices. They have a huge selection of Blu Ray discs at very reasonable prices. I was just there the other day and got The Italian job for 20 bucks and Planet Earth on Blu Ray for 70 dollars. The tools at Best Buy are charging 100 for Planet Earth. Fry's is definately the way to go.

it seems like there are quite a few unhappy campers in here with best buy! After working there for a few years, it sounds like the "idiots" u guys speak of are (my guess) new employees. but, talking about customer service with attitude, when was the last time you got exceptional service at circuit city (where employees are in fear they'll lose their jobs...its a bad environment), mcdonalds (haven't seen an employee smile there in a long time). customer service in general has got bad around the board.

I could not agree more w/ that statement. I actually was talking about that with my sister yesterday. We're from a small midwestern town, now we live in big cities, and we were commenting on how horrible customer service is now. The biggest thing I can't believe, especially at stores like BBuy, is employees on their cell phones while on the floor, when they're supposed to be working. If I were a manager and saw this I would immediately fire the person, no warning. That should be understood as something you don't do. The worst thing I've noticed is that they finish their conversation before helping you, instead of telling the person they're talking with that they will have to call back.

I've actually found myself not tipping 20%, which was my standard at restaurants, some people just don't deserve it.

I've stopped shopping at best buy as well. I have had several problems with customer service and I find that there BD's are WAY overpriced. I now shop at fry's for most of my stuff. I still go into BB to browse, but rarely buy anything anymore.
I used to work there and have spent ALOT of money there. Oh well, there loss is fry's gain!

Heres one. Go try and do a price match from another store on a car radio in which both places have free install. Best Buy will NOT honor their own offer to do the install if they price match. Basically its free if you pay more $$$.

The BB in my area seems pretty good. I've never really asked them any questions but I've overheard them giving explanations about blu-ray and HD DVD. They seemed pretty fair about it.

Also, I usually try to buy items on release day and depending on how early I get there, sometimes it hasn't been put on the shelf yet. A lot of places will just show me where it's supposed to be on the shelf and if it's not there, say sorry (meaning, I'd have to make another trip later to get it). BB employees have been willing to track down the stuff from the stock area and while it may take a while sometimes for them to find it, at least it saves me from having to make another trip. The employees at Circuit City have been pretty good about that also.

I was at a BB in the Buffalo area and one of the boys in Blue was the most knowledgable staff I've ever come across. I asked if they has some type of search available because I was looking for 3 key features on a TV. He said "well, run it through me and I'll be the filter". I thought he was just being cocky. Nope. I told him what I wanted and he narrowed it down to 3 TVs, all fitting the criteria. Asked him some tricky questions too (stuff I've only learned from coming to this forum), and he was spot on. What was funnier was, he said he "wasn't much of a videophile", that he was actually more into sound!!! So if video was not his strong suit, I can't imagine what he could tell me about home theatre! Not all BB employees are idiots! Please take the time to recognize this - even if you got a bad apple in the past. (BTW, he was a big fan of Blu, since he IS an audiophile)

Why would you want them working on your car? I would rather do it myself and know it's done right than let some minimum wage high school dropout screw up my wiring.

and i am taking my business somewhere else.

HAHA OMG! You know, I was at a quartly presentation where my company had us watch a 25min video about "give them the pickle". I didn't think anybody else in the world has ever seen that, lol. Really korny. Anyways, thats what were supposed to do when dealing with home owners because I'm a builder. Sorry, just thought the concept was funny. Logical. The only difference is that our video didn't have anything to do with ice cream. It was an old guy, maybe 70yrs old wearing a suit that was in the video.

Best Buy employees take tips? It was my understanding that you are not suppose to accept them?

I work at Circuit City and we are not allowed to do that.

Agreed. I've installed all of my own car stereo since I was able to drive. Easy enough, even car alarms.
