Watched it yesterday night. Its a pretty big improvement over the sd-dvd. Some hazy points but then the landscape scenes are just stunning.

They reviewer at IGN must be blind. A 6/10 for PQ when the other reviewers seemed more complementary.

I saw this thread and went right over to Best Buy to see if they had any. I was worried I wouldn't use up my $5 off coupons before the 31st. I get there and they had 3 sitting on the shelf! I snagged one real quick and promptly went to check out. I love Blu-ray.com! Keep up the great work about reporting the latest everybody!

I will probably buy it tomorrow at best buy if they have any in stock. Yes, Viggo is pretty damn good and after seeing Eastern Promises, I think he is one of the better actors out there right now.

I believe so. It's subtitle #1 English for the hearing impaired. I watched a little with it on and did show background noises.

Thanks for the explanation. It seems Subtitle #10 English is only for the non-English dialog, no background noises. Subtitle #1 has English and non-English dialog and background noises (I guess this is the SDH). Hope this helps!

Watched this tonight; I haven't seen it before. It's a great Blu-ray movie, but not the best. Picture is occasionally soft, but the 5.1 lossless audio lives up to expectations.

btw im new here HI
I watched this on Netflix Blu-ray Friday night. The special features provided insight and appreciation for how much hard work goes into making a movie. I rated it 4 stars.

Interesting. I have it on DVD. Now I am wondering whether to get it the BD or not, if the PQ isn't up to par. None of the stores like Target, Hastings, Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, W-M, or SC is this small town have it in stock yet. I am going up to Phoenix, AZ today to visit my son and and was planing on getting at Fry's. Now, I am not so sure.

Liebman's review on blu-ray.com is similar, and adds that although it's not so grainy, it lacks "depth, clarity, detail, and sharpness in many scenes."

Liebman also noted that the subtitles are ugly. Well, the same is true in the DVD version, big ugly yellow subtitles that are grainly as heck too. I thought it was an artifact of upconverting it to 1080p and the high resolution of my 1080p 47" LCD made the subtitles look very grainy. I need Lakota translated to English. I can understand some of the Arabic though after having lived in the Middle East (Israel) for many years.

Well, if Fry's has the BD for $19.99 or less, I just might buy it anyway for the lossless PCM 5.1 sound track.

I finally broke down and bought this. I saw it in the theater and I loved the cinematography in this film. Once they get to the Middle East just some beautiful shots.

This was an upgrade from the DVD for me. I knew it was not reference quality going in from the review here. It was good, I was hoping for better given how beautiful the movie was in the theater. The uncompressed audio track sounded great, I did not have it loud as I was watching after the little ones went to bed.

So I just watched this again tonight but this time I noticed something. According to my Oppo the PCM track is only 16 bit but the box says it is 24 bit. Anyone else?

Great movie this, I rewatched the blu yesterday. I think Hidalgo is really underrated and it has a wonderful sense of old fashioned adventure. It could probably do with a remaster. It looks good on blu but could certainly look a lot better. Love the locations and scenery in this.

I have this on Blu but if we ever get a 4K UHD announcement, i will definitely upgrade. Totally underrated movie. Great score from James Newton Howard.
