True story: When the Southern Baptists were trying to harrass-controversy Disney on the Gay-Day issue in the 90's, they immediately started leaping upon every other aspect of Disney (Ellen on ABC, for ex.) as "promoting or endorsing a gay agenda"--
Even Timon & Pumbaa were interpreted as, quote, "gay characters depicted in a Disney film", although they were never mentioned by name.

I kid you not: When the SB tried headlining "Gay characters in Lion King", I was CONVINCED they were referring to the one voiced by Jeremy Irons. Who else would you have guessed?
(Ahem?...Weird unmarried uncle?)

And if it was just Scar that was overbearingly fey for the rest of the entire Katzenberg era, we could let it slide, but by the time we got to Frollo in "Hunchback" and Clayton in "Tarzan", it started to get pretty danged annoying--
But Ratcliffe?...Jeffrey, that was just immature.

Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King were pure greatness....then...the bottom fell out like an express elevator to hell.

Actually, "Hercules" wasn't all that bad--coming from the Aladdin and Mermaid directors--and my opinions on "Treasure Planet" have already been well-documented.
Of course, that could be the reason that John Musker & Ron Clements were the only departed 90's directors hired back after John Lasseter moved in...

(As for what happened to the B&B and Lion King directors?
One ended up doing the Stuart Little movies and that Jackie Chan thing, one went to Sony to do "Open Season", and the other was last seen doing the Shrek Christmas special.)

Well we can now expect to see some good Disney movies now, hopefully Rapunzel is animated and not 3D and as for villains, I have a feeling Princess & Frog is going to have an awesome villain. Voiced by Keith David? YES.

I liked it but I think it is the weakest of the Disney films and most certainly the worst one of the 90's.

Good thing none of you have taken shots at Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Tarzan or else I'd have to kung fu kick all of you.

I think it's a common misconception that Disney films are all supposed to be intended for children. Hunchback, in my opinion, is one of the stronger works made by Disney in the 90's. It's not a cookie cutter film, but a very well crafted artistic interpretation of a classic tale. This film in particular is one of those films that makes me think for a minute that perhaps Disney isn't just a money hungry corporation. The art direction is spectacular, animators shine through all the beautifully performing characters, and the story brings in elements darker than most films, bringing focus to social and religious issues of those times, and some might argue our own.

Anyways, I honestly have a hard time assigning rank to all the Disney animated films. I think they would all shine like the beautiful gems they are if remastered and shown in HD, bringing out the details the artists worked hard to make the films. Pocahontas, for sure, would be breathe taking.

Look on the bright side.... all of them are eons better than "Home On The Range".

Man... thank god Disney finally returned to traditional animated features.

We almost had that giant turd as the final Disney Animated Feature Film.

That would have been a travesty to the entire Diseny legacy.

I also have a hard time assigning rank when you are being all inclusive, but there are several that stand out as superior to me and in my opinion most of them are the older classics.

As far as Pocahontas, I think people should be prepared - I'm guessing that if you like this film, but hate grain you might be disappointed when it comes out on Blu-ray. The DVD looks quite grainy to me already (and I don't mind seeing grain), so if this is a true trainsfer some may be disappointed. This is just conjecture, mind you.

I neither loved nor hated it, it was just incredibly bland, formulaic and a little insulting to the true story and the native people. Still, while they made Pocahontas herself look like a South Asian she was incredibly hot and that's a plus

She's the reason I always give the movie a pass.

I share in the sentiment that while its not as good as other Disney films from around the same time, Pocahontas still has a certain magic and charm to it. The characters are mostly believable, the songs are memorable, and overall its still pretty enjoyable. I didn't learn of the historical mistakes until years later, but they don't really bother me.

I never saw Bolt, but Mulan was very good. Ming-Na Wen and Eddie Murphy did a very good job leading that movie, and they were backed up by some great supporting cast members too. The sequel just flat-out sucked, though.
