Of course it'll be on Blu-Ray. Sony wanted to push this for a December release but it's scheduled for next year since it was deemed too early.

Look at some earlier posts in this thread.
I also have a review: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/user/764551/reviews/

But as for the Steelbook, thanks for clearing that up, glad it's not in the artwork.
Also, it's indeed kind of cheap they put it on an actual DVD-case and even kept the logo on it...

Default Exclusives for 'Michael Jackson's This Is It' DVD and Blu-ray releases

The world will always mourn that no one got the chance to see Michael Jackson perform live one last time. After a 10 year hiatus, he was scheduled to start touring in Summer 2009 with 50 stops scheduled. His first stop was the London O2 Arena. During his final days before his untimely death, he had been busy making final preparations. In Michael Jackson's This Is It, all his hard work from concept to finished product is captured during the months from April to June 2009. The film gives the audience a glimpse of the more than 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage that was taped of the rehearsals. A lost genius can clearly been seen through his singing, dancing and filmmaking. It is a must watch for all Michael Jackson and music fans.

Version #1 is This Is It - Pointing, Version #2 is This Is It - Smooth Criminal and Version #3 is This Is It - Blue Shirt Dancing. If you pre-order in-store, you will not be able to select which Best Buy exclusive version for the Blu-ray release and you will still have to arrive at the store early on release day to guarantee you get your first choice. However, if you pre-order online, you can select which Best Buy exclusive version for the Blu-ray release you would like immediately and they will ship it to you. At this time, on BestBuy.com, the images seem to be incorrect representations of Version #1 and #2 of the Blu-ray exclusives so please confirm with customer service when ordering to ensure you get the version you want.

If you plan to order overseas, remember Europe and Japan's DVDs are Region 2. Japan's Blu-rays have Region A coding, same as USA. However, Europe's Blu-rays are generally Region B. Australia's DVDs are Region 4 and Blu-rays are generally Region B. Unless you have a region-free DVD or Blu-ray player, you will not be able to play the discs that are not coded the same as the USA discs. Sometimes overseas blu-rays may be region-free, but that is not a guarantee. Always check here to see if a Blu-ray is region-free prior to ordering.

As always, these exclusives are limited and may run out quick. So order early and sit back relaxed knowing you are all set! Check out the slideshow to see more of these exclusives.

This is ridiculous now. seriously how many more copies do they expect people to buy in addition to those already buying the Best Buy and/or Wal-Mart Exclusive sets?. are you kidding me? . Best Buy version for me. LOL absolutly unheard of with these many exclusives for one movie. it's crazy.

I love MJ and all, but I am not going to buy 5 different things. One is enough for me. Besides, this is going to be so MASS PRODUCED, it won't be worth anything until decades later, if that.

So if your thinking of "collecting" and "making money" off it anytime soon, won't happen. You should be buying it because you love the man and the music. If you want more, go for it. However for most people here, the Best Buy deal will suffice

Surely the bluray release would be the same as the theatrical release.

This is It wasn't recorded by conventional means, it was captured on different devices. the majority from a HD source and others from cameras that would be used to filter the image from the stage to the big screens.

Hence the change in detail, although I don't remember noticing the aspect ratio changes while in the cinema.

Either way I was sold on the entire thing and I wasn't even a fan

I expected something like that from the reviews I read but surprisingly none of them mentioned an aspect ratio change. You would think that would be a sticking point for some of the reviewers. This is mostly due the show not entirely shot in HD. Only some parts were but most of them, I assume, are just handicams taking video of dance routines to review and fix.

Thanks for the heads up.

While I agree that buying a Blu-ray movie heightens our expectations with regard to the quality of video and audio I cannot agree that this is a disappointing Blu-ray. I'm sure Michael Jackson would have loved to record the entire concert in HD and release a package worthy of the concerts he was planning. However, as a Michael Jackson fan - that's FAN not FANATIC - I'm just pleased that we are able to see what is offered. No one could have envisioned his untimely demise so the fact that what was recorded is not entirely HD just makes me realize how fortunate we are to have the recordings that were made. Hindsight is always 20/20 and they can't go back and do it over in HD. Enjoy what is available and be glad it is there. If you're not an MJ fan then it probably doesn't matter to you anyway. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah.
But I believe it's like the following:

You have the HD-cameras, which was from a crew hired by Michael to record for personal archiving.
Then you have the SD-cameras which were probably just recordings from the dancers and such.
Normally not meant for more than personal use or whatever, but still added to this documentary of course.
That's how you get the mix of different video, it's not just one crew with all the same or similar cameras.
The video came from different sources, not like one planned production.

The same crew with the HD-cameras would probably have shot the actual concert later on.
Maybe more extensively of course with more cameras and accessories, but yeah...

I know this topic is about the Region A version but i know there are alot of members who are thinking about ordering the German steelbook

As i said previously I am still awaiting my copy, Hopefully at the weekend i will have it

But i was on ebay.de and a member is already selling their steelbook and the good news is the slogan "Discover the man you never knew" appears to be in English

More pics courtesy of an amazon member:
And the disc clearly states region ABC
