Do you like stuff blowing up, and slow motion shots of birds? Then this is the trilogy for you!

I like all 3 movies, granted the second one doesn't have the best transfer and some of the effects/stunts are over the top but it's still good fun.

It's kind of like Bond but then again it isn't. Cruise isn't that kind of actor anyway. Think spectacular stunts, impossible scenarios and hackers who would make Trinity from the Matrix look like a noob.

Mission: Impossible - Cerebral, heavy thinking film from Brian De Palma that will have you saying "Say wut!" outloud in a Stewie Griffin voice when the climax hits.

Mission: Impossible 2 - As per the filmmakers (paraphrased): We wanted a lot of action sequences so we wrote a story to go fit around those. In other words, far less cerebral then the first film but not big on strong story or major teamwork.

Mission: Impossible III - The closest any filmmaker has gotten to the original Mission: Impossible formula with a team in place for a majority of the missions. Albeit, like the first two, this is mainly a Tom Cruise pornocopia with the story mainly focusing on his character.

For reference: the original formula was a covert team of spies and intelligence officers working for the Impossible Mission Force. M:I and M: I 2 ditched that for Ethan Hunt to be the primary focus albeit a team still kinda plays in the both films, they are not the major focus. M:I 3 returns to the original concept and lets the audience focus on the individual team member's skills but again, it ends up shifiting focus back to Cruise.

There are not films to compare them to since each film has their own unique style. If you don't like Bond then you will more than likely not enjoy these films as they deal with espionage, covert operatons, spying, undercover work, disguises, and gadgets.

Really cool gadgets like explosive bubblegum, video cameras hidden eyeglass frames, and video playback devices disguised as sunglasses & a disposable camera. There are more of course.

Very good summary of the movies. To the OP - be sure you really like Tom Cruise cause it really is all about him in these movies.

You left out the fact that part II is a copy of Hitchcock's Notorious, and III is a copy on True Lies. Although I still liked III alot.

Go for it! This is a great trilogy. All 3 movies are good, with the 2nd being the weakest link of the 3. Although he, J.J. Abrams, has produced and directed TV shows, Mission Impossible 3 was the first movie he directed, the 2nd being Star Trek. I highly recommend you buy all 3!
