the only ones I rarely ever watch are extended scenes, deleted scenes and alternate endings...

the only version of a movie that I ever watched was Carrot Top's commentary on 'Rules of Attraction"...and it was actually entertaining...

other than that...none..

I may not always watch the extras but I do always buy them. Its just nice to know that you have everything included.

I fear the Double-dip when I purchase a Blu that I know has a SD edition loaded with extras. Even to the point of passing on it during the inital release. So I guess on borderline titles not having extras can mean the loss of a sale for me.

I only care about deleted scenes or alternative endings as extras, if the disc has them fine, if not no big deal.

The extras disc is the one they trick me into putting in by having it in the case as the top disc in those flip cases or on the left side of the double cases. I'd never choose to buy a movie or a format because of those cool extras that I can DVR from E!

Bottom line give me the BEST PQ and audio FIDELITY then if there's room put in the extra's but i'd sooner leave them off completely if it meant better overall
quality.
Sure, we all want the best AV quality. Duh!

But it sounds like many posters are still locked in a DVD-mindset where "extras" generally meant you had to steal bits/bandwidth from the feature film.

Folks, on BD50 we've got PLENTY of room for transparent 1080p/24-bit lossless feature presentation *and* bonus material (in hi-def!).

This is Blu-ray. It's one reason I prefer the format over HD DVD, where extras will still be forced to compete with bits used for the feature film ala traditional DVD.

As long as pic and sound are of the highest possible quality the format allows I am satisfied. Everything else is a bonus.

First and foremost however I need a perfect transfer.

You need a choice for "I don't care about extras, but I will watch them if they are interesting"

I've never bought a movie for the extras. But I have made use of them and in some cases they are pretty cool. I think probably some of the coolest extras I've seen are on Batman Begins - they talk about the bat mobile and how it was design specifically for the movie and its features, capabilities etc.

I would have still enjoyed the movie without, but it was cool having them.

Default Extras are great especially in high definition

Give me as many extras as possible with high definition picture, anamorphic widescreen, along with either English PCM audio or Dolby True HD sound and ill be happy especially if the anime blu-rays are like that.

100% agree with you here. I am a big fan of the extras. I love film and everything that goes into it not just the 2 hours that end up on screen. I mean one of the original arguments for Blu-ray when this format war first began was the superior storage capacity compare to HD. Now BD50 isn't there just to fit a flawless feature presentation as David says above. That for the most part can be done with half the capacity. However being able to present the films the way Blu-ray has been as well as load the discs with many more feature which a lot of us film lovers really enjoy was supposed to be one of the big advantages of Blu-ray over HD. This notion that extras are just wastes of space and taking away from the film itself is just not anywhere near true.

Someone in this thread suggested that the extras be on a separate disc. If extras come at the expense of either picture or sound quality, I heartily agree. The only extra I'd really like is that side 2 contain the anamporphic version of the movie, if nothing else than in "Director's Edition" releases. One day I'd really like to get a front projector, an anamorphic lens, 2.40:1 screen and see 2.35 & 2.40 content as it is meant to be seen, big and bad-ass without losing image size or resolution. In the words of Flavo Flav, "Yeaaaaaaaaah boooooiiiiyyyyy!!"

If I could just pop the disc in and it would do nothing but start to play the movie I'd be perfectly happy. I don't need anything extra.
