I hate the Olympics, it's delaying my favorite show from airing new episodes.

Now that football season is over, I'm ready for the Olympics. I'm psyched to be cheering on the American athletes. GO USA!!!

What show would that be? Don't worry: Leno will be back.

I look forward to the Olympics, winter and summer, because it's one of the few occasions that lesser-profile sports receive prime time coverage. I have no interest in the NFL or any collegiate sports, and ESPN hasn't lived up to its billing as the worldwide leader in sports (not with all of their poker coverage ), but I still need a televised sports fix and the Olympics fit this bill quite nicely.

I'm pretty excited. My wife (Canadian) and I (American) love watching the Olympics when they come around. We both prefer the Winter Olympics, and are especially interested in hockey (though we watch most events). The Canadians will be hungry, given they lost gold in the World Junior Championships (GO USA). We're trying to figure out a bet for the Olympics...

LOST!!!

I would be more interested if they adopted more of the X Games games. For me the Winter X Games are more exciting. This year the handicap downhill single ski race was amazing.

Sports Illustrated has forecasted a bigger medal haul for Canada than for the U.S.A. I'm not so sure about that, although I do believe its possible.

Being Canadian I sure hope we surpass our expectations and do well! The Hockey Gold in Salt Lake City was a tremendous source of pride for all Canadians and a very emotional win. Doing it on home ice this year could be even sweeter!

Anyway, good luck to all of the athletes and I hope eveyone enjoys the games!

After the disappointing result at the World Juniors, there's even more pressure on the men's team to bring home the gold. I could live with less if they exact a bit of revenge on the US men's team though.

Terrible... Don't think I've ever seen a Luger actually fly off the track before...

EDIT: I just watched video of the crash and it was a very violent hit... Those pillars should not have been there in the first place...

No one watched the opening ceremony besides me?

Other than the minor technical glitch at the very end (prior to the lighting of the Olympic cauldron), it was a very impressive show. David Atkins did a spectacular job of encapsulating all of the elements in a production that defined who and what it means to be Canadian. Despite the death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, the organizers honoured his memory throughout the show. It was every bit as memorable as the Beijing opening ceremony, but it resonates with me on a deeper level because of my being Canadian.

I stayed up to 3:17 to finish watching it, since I missed the start. I'm not going to lie, a lot of that isn't my speed but some was quite impressive and considering the event was held indoors, I give a big thumbs up to the atomsphere. It looked and felt like it was outdoors.

I'll say this...the look on Nashs face wondering wtf was going on with the legs of the olympic cauldron was priceless!

So they've determined that it human error lead to the Jordanians death, yet they go and shorten the track by 2 turns, and change the profile of turn 16.

The track was deemed safe at the design stage, and it's safe now. I think it's ridiculous to alter it. Everytime an athlete goes down the track, the potential for an accident exists. It can still happen at other turns, the womens speeds for this length of track hit over 140kms.

I say leave it the original length.

General consensus amongst my friends I was with last night was that ceremony was embarassing, especially the MINOR technical glitch lighting the torch inside and then driving Gretzky 15-minutes in the rain in the back of a pick-up truck to light the official torch. Brutal!

Besides Gretzky on the back of the truck it wasn't that bad. Although it was pretty embarissing as a resident of Vancouver to see those people chasing after the truck. Reminded me of a zombie movie.

World Juniors? After the dissappointing result in the 2006 Turin Olympics there's more pressure on them to do well. I'm praying they'll repeat Salt Lake City, but I don't think Stevie Y picked the best Canadian team possible.

I guess it's up to the viewer. I haven't watched an opening ceramonies for any Winter Olympics so I can't gage, but the posts for the Olympic flame not rising was brutal.

Can someone explain why Ski Jumping is a judged sport?

"He jumped further, but his form was off".

They don't give style points for the long jump, and I don't see how this is different.

My guess it would be to eliminate a tie. Competitors can easily jump the same distance, but one jumper may look stunning!
