I know but according to specialists, he would be the perfect fit!

Many specialists also believed Weis was a great hire, and Bob Davie, and Tyrone Willingham... In reality it's unlikely Notre Dame will become a national power again unless they start letting athletes with lower GPAs and SAT/ACT scores in. They lose out on a lot of big time players because they can't qualify academically and Notre Dame won't let someone in just because they are a good athlete like a lot of colleges.

For some reason ESPN's NFL reporter Adam Schefter has been doing a lot of reporting on the potential Notre Dame hire and he says Notre Dame is not interested in Brian Kelly and wants a coach with a defensive background. Yesterday Schefter said Notre Dame and Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops were near a deal, today he says his sources were wrong and Stoops is not leaving Oklahoma. So far Stoops, Urban Meyer, Tony Dungy (not even sure why he was mentioned, there was no way he was taking a college job), and Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp have publicly said they aren't interested. Notre Dame apparently likes Oregon coach Chip Kelly and Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh but neither seem interested. TCU coach Gary Patterson has agreed to a contract extension.

I think thats in part true, but just look at Stanford. I think they can't get the greatest players, but if they get a great recruiter and a quality coach they can be a contender each year rather then struggling.

Stanford has a better recruiting base than Notre Dame. Indiana is a poor football state so they have to do most of their recruiting outside the state and compete with Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State for their in-state talent. Stanford is much warmer than Notre Dame as well, and the cold weather turns off a lot of players from Texas and Florida. I'm not saying Notre Dame can't become a national power again but there are a lot more major programs than the 1980s when Notre Dame won their last title. In addition while Stanford has had a good season and looks to be improving they still aren't a national title contender and are expected to go to the Emerald Bowl.

That sucks but after back to back late season collapses it was going to happen. Now just waiting for ASU to get some brains *insert joke* and fire Erickson. There is no way to loose back to back rivalry games to U of A and still keep a job.
