haha, why? If I'm having the same issue, and they have videos showing the same exact issue, why wouldn't I believe that? I have a harder time trusting forum members saying they can't hear it 4 ft away from them (no offense).

Well so far, the general consensus here is that it is far quieter. Maybe you and that guy got bad systems. It's been know to happen from time to time.

Anyways, I've read from numerous articles and slim owners who've said that it's virtually noise free, you're the first I've come across to say otherwise...

could it be you are just too anal? judging by your forum name sound is a "thing" of yours. have you tried booting a 360 or a PC in the same room as your ps3 and seeing which is louder..

mywhitenoise is a Blur song, haha. I've heard a 360 those things are ridiculous, in many aspects, and of course my computer is way louder. Maybe I have a defective PS3. Or maybe I am anal, but this is definitely louder than my older PS3 and the fan kicks in right away, the disc drive is extremely loud when reading a game.

The fan on my Slim hasn't kicked into high gear since I've had it! I think you should replace the one you have! I mean the Slim is "stealth" quiet!

I prefer to watch neflix on my ps3 than my xbox 360, the ps3 slim is lounder than my 40Gb one though

Perhaps our MGS4 PS3s are just quieter than Slims? hehe, my MGS4 PS3 is still a little noisy though. I wonder, how far away you people are from your PS3s? Because I'm about 5 to 6 feet from it.

In both videos the users are playing the same disc, GTA 4. The game data is big for this game if I remember correctly. When it loads from the HDD I think it may heat up a little and thus the fan goes high speed (best guess).

When I play GTA 4 the fan does start to kick in but not too loud, then again I don't sit that close to the PS3. Is that what you are playing? GTA 4? Try other discs and see if the fan makes noise.

nah, that game bored the hell out of me. The games I've played so far on the slim are Uncharted 2, Beatles Rock Band, Ratchet and Clank A Crack In Time, Katamari Forever, Tekken 6, Buzz! Quiz World, Demon's Souls, and most recently Fallout 3.
The fan kicks in right away, when I pop in a disc (not playing it, just popping it in) it gets twice as loud.

That's a very interesting video because my experience is exactly the opposite. My slim seems about that loud but my 60Gb is louder than that person's.

the fat one in the video was a 40GB, they were a lot more energy efficient than the 60GBs.

Nope, there's no ventilation in the front at all.
