Ok, I have a ps3 hooked up to my yamaha htr-5660 receiver through optical cable for my audio. It plays dolby digital, dts (for bluray), but will not play dts for regular dvds that have dts as an option! I'm setup on bitstream for my audio format through the ps3 and dts is checked on the menu. Am I doing something wrong?

Probably a dumb question, but do you have the Dolby Digital and DTS boxes checked under the Audio Output Settings on the PS3? If you've got it set up for bitstream, there's no reason it shouldn't be working.

Have you selected the DTS track on the disc audio menu? If so, what do you get when you play a DTS track on a DVD?

yes i have the dts and dolby digital selected on the ps3 menu. I've tried not selecting the dolby digital to try and force it to dts but still won't work.
the menu's on the dvd don't have an option to select dts. is there another way for me to select dts on the dvd other than the dvd menu? ***ok, i popped in top gun and it actually has an option for dts 6.1. since this was an option that i can select it is now playing in dts. so if the dvd doesn't have an option menu for me to change how can i get it to play in dts? i'm only picking dvd's that have the dts track. You are bitstreaming, which means you're sending it out to the receiver/TV/whatever for decoding. This isn't the PS3's doing, it's your outputting device. Are you sure your receiver can decode DTS?
*edit* Looked up the receiver and apparently it can. Have you tried changing the output to LPCM and seeing if the PS3 will decode that audio for you? Still sounds like a receiver issue to me since bitstreaming means it doesn't do anything with the audio but send it out. Last edited by aramis109; 09-13-2009 at 04:32 PM. |

yes my receiver is able to decode dts. i did find the language menu and some dvd's have the option to play in dts and sounds great! others, like my jurassic park (which from my understanding was made in dts originally, maybe my copy is made strictly in dd) does not have a menu and i can't change the format during play from my remote. maybe i'll just get a different copy which i know has dts. figured out most of my others do have the dts option in the menu located somewhere....Thanks for all the help guys, this is probably the best forum i've seen in a while!
***yeah i looked into the bitstream/linear pcm option and i believe i have that set correctly. it my just be USER ERROR on my part |

Yeah, I actually just saw that in the stores yesterday. I didn't realize they made it with both tracks. Wish they would have put them on the same dvd.
