In your guys area their might be a shortage...Around here they had a good quantity of both 120gb/250gb at most of the B&M...Their is no way they will discontinue the slim this quickly, especially after the great sales they been having...Amazon still has them available, but it is one per house hold...

Well if you think about it, how many 40-60-80 gig ps3's can you buy now? Those slowly disappeared from the shelves for the bigger and better model. It's not inconceivable to think sony will only produce the 250 gig model.

+1...Sony would NEVER drop price and then discontinue in order to sell a more expensive one...NEVER.... LMAO

There are plenty here in the DFW area...I'll be happy to pick one up and send it to you for a small fee

Well that is because Sony produced the Slim, so why continue to make the more expensive kin...Why discontinue 120gb at $300 price to those who think 120gb in enough storage for them...I can see them ditching it if they brought the price down on the 250gb and came out with a Slim with a bigger HDD...

Sony did update all our firmware to "allow us to copy files from one PS3 to another". I bet they want us all to buy a second, or third PS3

I can't wait for the PS3 BOGO Sales!

Unless the 250GB is going to retail for $299 (which it won't anytime soon), then there is no way they are ditching the 120GB. Not to mention the millions they spent on a $299 marketing campaign - I don't think we'll be seeing a $349 campaign in the spring.

Having 2 price points helps them overcome some of the losses they are taking now on the 120GB. I've read they lose about $38 on each 120GB Slim. Selling a 250GB for $350 allows them to break even, or even make a buck or two.

Sony cut allocation to TARGET in fourth quarter this year. We were told via corporate email to try to upsale on the 250GB model until we could get more in. Since then, we have had a mear six 120GB models in stock. Thanks, Sony, for making me be able to seel a great system for christmas!

I would say the reason everyone is sold out is because of the awesome deals they had for 2 weeks where they were basically giving away a 120 gig free with Sony tv purchases. I know out Best Buy sold a ton of the deals

Okay, looks like its only in a few areas... don't doubt they'll get a decent re-stock in early next week.

Are all PS3s made locally (IE are US PS3s made in the US, Japanese in Japan, etc?)

If they do any kind of shipping at all I could see that the rest of the world might have some shortages to help support the Japanese launch of FF13. Because if they didn't increase the supply there I'd bet that'd be an insta-sellout.

Is there a PS3 shortage right now?

My buddy is looking for a PS3 and went to 9 stores tonight, all of them were out.

yeah, I don't see any in my area either. Stores are pretty much cleaned out. Looks like they're available online, however.

When some Target stores were selling the 250 GB models for $250 I was looking around my area trying to find one. I wasn't checking WM or BB, but all the Targets in my area were completely sold out of PS3 consoles except for one store that had two 250 GB models. They weren't selling them at the clearance price though.

I haven't seen one in a Target store in more than a Month. I usually go once or twice a week and as I am headed to the movie section, I generally glance to see if they have any in the cases. They have plenty of Wiis and 360s, but no PS3s. I haven't been to Best Buy in a while, so I don't know about there.

This is so annoying, tried BB, Wally World, Costco, Sams, Target, Sears, all sold out

This would normally mean great news, but according to NPD they're selling in the mid 300K's per month, which is by no means stellar. Sony needs to get their production lines up big time, as they have to capitalize on these AAA titles that have recently and are about to come out.

Well, I've wondered the same thing as when they've been in they've been selling very well. I had begun to wonder the week before Final Fantasy XIII released but thought stores (Best Buy, Fry's, etc.) would be getting a big shipment in on either the Sunday before or at least on the day FF XIII was available. But to my surprise, they did not receive any. Then you see for the month of February that the 360 out sold everyone which I really was surprised by.

I agree that there must be a shortage of PS3 but I do know that when they are in they are quickly selling. On another note, one of the most difficult Best Buy stores near where I work (360 focused), Final Fantasy XIII is sold out...the 360 version is not sold out. So this is either a good thing for the PS3 or the store got less volume of the PS3 version of the game. We should find out some time this week who sold the most during the first week. My initial thought is that the PS3 version is doing very well. But M$ has a tendancy to spin the numbers. We'll see.
