And RBB, thx for the clarification. U r indeed "da man."
Now I don't feel so bad for doing the exact same thing. I put my fat PS3 into the bed room though so it wasn't a complete waste of $300.

I read that the down side of opting for bitstream is that you don't get the "secondary" audio, like the menu noises and picture in picture video commentary. Well, I never use PIP commentary and I have yet to notice any missing audio in movie menus. I go with bitstream not because I believe it improves the audio, but for the vanity of seeing the HD audio codec indicators light up.
It is true. I've noticed it in the Step Brothers blu-ray. When you're in the menu and you select a option, you won't hear the clicking sound on bitstream. On PCM you do (that's what I've noticed so far and haven't checked my other movies.). Based on what I've read, go with bitstream if you're using a a optical connection, If using a HDMI connection for audio, use PCM. I do understand what people are saying the exciting feeling of seeing the Dolby True HD and the DTS HD symbols appear on your receiver display (I was excited when I saw it my self on my Onkyo receiver).

Optical will not carry HD audio. If you're still using an optical connection, you MUST bitstream to get 5.1 audio (DD/DTS); LPCM is limited to 2.0 over optical.

HD audio, whether LPCM or bitstream, requires HDMI--or for some stand-alones, 5.1 analog outputs (the PS3 requires a third-party device to extract 5.1 analog from HDMI).

How do you know if your tv supports 255? because when i was in service menu changing my reds it was at 255, does that mean mine supports it?

if so should what should set them on? i dont know much about calibration

This article should have mention to utilize a calibration disc such as DVE (Digital Video Essentials) and follow the test patterns provided and use the TV settings. If not using test patterns, use a warmer color temperature in the TV settings and a movie mode, TV manufacturers usually use cooler color temperatures to give an appearance of a brighter picture in daytime, I am however never convinced by this method, but somehow people buy TVs by this method. So TV manufacturers use warmer settings that are closer to the ideal D6500 standard (6500K in the color temperature spectrum stands for white and is ideal for color movies). However in high end consumer equipment, warm may actually concern with 5500K which is used for Black and white movies (for a more inviting look to them). What I'm saying is calibrate your television, it may matter more than calibrating your PS3.

Well, I have the Onkyo HTS-6100. Should have set my ps3 to bitstream or PCM?

Its rare for a TV display to support full range(255) RGB, usually only applies for PC monitors. you can still use RGB if your set does not support it. it will get your black level considerably darker, however you will most likely lose a great amount of picture detail, i.e. black crush
