lol, it's funny, some say that compression would save it, you don't think the developers thought of that?

For the record I dont have actual production costs for one disc vs. two those are just hypothetical numbers. Look at Gears of War they axed the two fights with the Brumak(large creature that chases you after leaving the mansion) because of disc space. Not to mention that the game is about 8-10 hours max start to finish. Just think how short it would have been without all that clever compression ![]() Then they always talk about downloadable content. Well my "premium" 360 has a 20gb hd, well you can only use 13gb of it the rest is M$ junk. Now I have about 6 demos(5-6gb), RB6 Vegas Red & Black pack(2.2GB) and a few other things and I have an amazing 3gb left. Sure you can get rid of demos but the map packs from RB6 you basically have to have for online play. To top it off the dev's can't even write the games to use hd support due to the fact that there are so many "core" systems with no hd's at all. The bottom line is the ps3 has all the benefits with none of the weaknesses. ![]() You think there are any developers out there going "damn 50gb's just isn't enough for the game, were going to have to drop some content". Yeah, did they really say that?? I mean seriously, I have yet to see a 5 disc DVD9 game... at most 2 disc... yes 5 discs (it's about 5.5 DVD9s to 1 BD50)... I really doubt they would need THAT much space, but I'm not a game programmer...

Polyphony are reducing the car count in GT5 because it takes so much longer to create content at the quality expected on PS3, I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with GT3 on PS2 after GT2 on PSone had a huge number of cars (and two disks because of the lack of space on CD
![]() Metal Gear Online's going to be seperate because well.. MGS4 will be bloody good value as a standalone single player game. MGS2 and 3 had a good 20+ hours of gameplay in a single play through if you were thorough (so many easter eggs) and there were incentives to replay the game. In MGS4 you can choose which 'side' you want to help (if either) and that will supposedly add a lot of replay value. MGO will supposedly have great value as a standalone online/multiplayer only game but details on the amount of content are still scarce. We don't even know if MGO will be fullpriced and a Blu-ray or PlayStation Store downloadable title. I think Kojima said he could more than fill a BD50, but that doesn't mean they've been limited by 50GB of storage. |

The simple solution for GT5 is a DLCs or seperate discs like they've been doing for SingStar and GuitarHero... sure you'll pay a premium, but it's not like they're crippling your game because of size constraints. I'd pay a bit extra for stuff that's optional, but that's me. As long as I get a slew of cars to choose from, I wouldn't mind pay $5 bucks for a pack of Ferraris of Maseratis...

The HD-DVD fans should take note of this as well, in their arguments that 30gb is "good enough" since "most people" are happy with 720 p anyway.
I'll never understand the mentality of acception of mediocrity to save a dollar. |

Compression sounds good if you got a HARD DRIVE! MSFT also forgot that you need to cache these decompressed textures, but every developer is forced to make games playable on core Xbox 360, which has no Hard Drive to cache textures to, it all has to be done in Ram. It's gona be High Quality textures in smaller worlds or large worlds with low textures. Sony has thought ahead. MSFT just wanted to throw their card in first, thus crippling their system. Microsoft, well does well when there is no competiton (ala Windows). But when feirce competition rears it's head, MSFT falters. Realy what MSFT has going for 360 is that it was first in the nextgen market, thus having a larger library of games, and a great online service that I don't think any company could have done. 360 is a great console if does not fail on you. ![]() |
