I live in an apt. and have a 5.1 setup. In my year and half of living here the manager has only asked me to turn the bass down once. It was late after 11 one night and sub was shaking the dishes in the kitchen.

Does sarcasm just follow you around or is it a learned trait?

I don't know why you're getting crap from people, for being a considerate neighbor.

My aforementioned Rock Band parties were only on Friday or Saturday nights, and my downstairs neighbor was usually not around. Each building had 6 apartments, and my living room was far away from the other 3rd floor apartment, so I only had to worry about the person directly under me.

On school nights I still didn't go to bed until after 2, but I kept the volume on my TV down (whether watching TV or a movie) anytime after 9pm.

yea you seem cool about it, But im not saying my Apt was silent by ANY means for Big Games PPVs or anything going on thru the day.. But this kid made it sound like he didnt give a crap if his neighbors could hear everything coming out of his speakers at 11 at night.. thats just rude..

I live in an apt and I have a 5.1 system. I usually don't blast it anyways but I make sure it's not loud after 8pm. I had a neighbor call the office and complain about noise on me at 6 in the afternoon. I told the office that she can deal with it. By law, I don't have to have it turned down until 10pm. It is my right to enjoy a system as loud as I want before (as long as it's not knocking crap off her walls).

I live in a townhouse with neighbors on both sides of me. There is a foot of solid concrete in between each of us. I don't really play my stuff too loud and I've asked my neighbors if they hear anything. They both tell me they hear nothing. I told them not to be nice and if it ever gets too loud to just come over and tell me. So far, not one complaint.

The only time I ever play movies louder than normal is on Saturday or Sunday from 11am - 8pm. After that, I go into my own state of paranoia and worry I will bother everyone.

Another appartment dweller here.

We don't have neighbours either side, only below, and our place has soundproofing throughout with concrete, then floating floors so the badboys can get cranked whenever really !

I had the same exact setup in my old townhouse, and at night I never turned it up to loud. My old neighbor smoked, and I could hear him cough at night! That is how thin the walls were! My other neighbor had kids and I could hear them SCREAM during the day when I'd try to study, but she told me it was ok if I cranked it during the day since they "made their own loud noises" . She was an awesome neighbor.

On another note, most of the time I spent at my townhouse I almost NEVER had any neighbors, so I was VERY loud ALL the time . Now I have a house, and I NEVER have to worry about being loud

Im assuming MJ hasnt seen your setup Force. that alone would determine where you live 'really expensive'. plus the fact that in Europe, houses are typically build using concrete, and not wooden materials, not like most made in the US.

Ive seen some buildings also converted that do have the luxury of being insulated pretty well, and cant hear a thing despite their age. Some new apartments, some old, most of them determined by how the owners/contractors determine how much they'd like to invest in them.

I used to live in a number of apartments, but with good common sense and courtesy, ive never had the pleasantries of dealing with irate neighbors.
