I would agree with that ... The only thing that Sony cuts the corner on this model is: the remote did not have the open/close button and I often to use this feature a lot ... bump ... er ... Most previous Sony models have this feature on the remotes

Default HDI Dune Blu-Ray Player with PC Streaming

The Dune Prime Blu-ray player has media streaming support of your own files on your computer. Music, pictures, and most video file types. I think you can also play files from a USB drive. It looks pretty neat. Kind of expensive though. It cost almost as much as my Oppo.

Default yes Mark! I have one. Fantastic player

I have a review I wrote, and when I get enough posts I will post it.

You will not be sorry with this player, and it does everything they say it does.

The Dune Prime 3.0 is looking......very promising. Still needs more feedback and reviews though.

I guess it really depends of what your friend wants to get out of the player. If he's into gaming a PS3 is perfect for him, but if he's not a better get a stand alone player like a Samsung 3600 and all it's online stuff like Netflix, Blockbuster and Youtube would be good, or a Sony BDP350 would also be nice.

DO NOT buy a Samsung. They are nothing but trouble and have numerous issues with firmware, streaming Netflix, etc. I'm returning the P1590 in my bedroom today. If your buying a standalone, Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Oppo, Denon, and possibly Dune (Their new player looks exceptional, but it's questionable as of now) are the better choices. The latter brands can get a bit expensive though. Stay clear of Samsung, Vizio, Magnavox, Insignia, Slyvania, any other Funai Models, Curtis Matthews, Phillips, and any other brand that hasn't performed that well in the past. Blu-ray players have a lot of potential for problems since they require updates, etc. These devices aren't the items you want to be cheap with (unless you want to buy a new one in the near future).

Just because you've had problems doesn't mean that all of us who own a Samsung have them. I've owned 2 players a Sony 350 and a Samsung 3600, both of them have had their little issues but at the end the pros exceeds the cons.

But read what CNET has to say about the best bluray players
http://reviews.cnet.com/best-blu-ray-players/

Hope this helps you

Too bad it isn't just me. Search for the Samsung threads on this forum. You will see complaints after complaints after complaints. They don't have little issues, they have a ton of them. Why do you think Samsung has dropped the price from $188 to $128 on the P1590? They are trying to sell out the rest of those junk piles to any suckers who are willing to take them. Plus, Samsung's main issue is with firmware updates, which cause their machines to malfunction. This is serious problem, considering firmware is what will allow the device to keep playing movies in the future. Who would want such a troublesome player, especially someone who is new to blu-ray (possibly like the person this thread is about)?

I didn't say anything about the Sony 350. It is a fine player. The Sony BDP-S360 is also a commendable player, which is the same price or cheaper (Average for it is $150) than all of the Samsung players. The only issue I have read about it is that the remote doesn't have an eject button.

Default For any strange human being with an HDTV n no Blu-ray...

Wait for the 2010 series of Sony and Panasonic players. Or if you are also into gaming, SLIM PS3 remains supreme in mixing Blu-ray with HD gaming. Don't fall for the OPPO Hype, unless you listen to Super-audio CD. WHY? For those with proper 1080/24p televisions have an edge, they could buy a $200 player and get the EXACT picture as the OPPO played at this mode. Even if you don't have this capbility, differences are small to none.
