Question Best Blu-ray Player to Date Suggestions

I am in the market to buy a new blu-ray player and I have looked at the current available players as far as Sony, Panasonic, and the PS3. I am stuck in a hard place and not sure what the best is overall and what will have all the features I am wanting. What is the best in your alls opinion and what would you purchase? Please give me some good feedback.

Jeremy

i'll be first to say PS3. Or maybe i won't be the first.
Seriously, i've had mine for two weeks and it works flawlessly. Blurays and standard dvd's look as good or better than my bdp-300 standalone. Sony is constantly giving the unit firmware updates, so you're gonna be set for a while.

PS3 does it all, no need for bitstreaming.. PS3 will decode most all audio codecs. Use the HDMI input output with audio set to Linear PCM..

Jeremy, in order to give you a useful answer, folks need to know what "all the features I am wanting" are? PS3 may, or may not be the best answer for you.

Question

What I meant to say as far as "all the features" is that I am wanting to get the best player for my buck and I want it to have the capability to decode the major ones out now plus ones in the future as well. Overall, I want a blu-ray player that will be top notch...hope this helps and I appreciate the feedback...so what do you suggest now?

If you don't need analog outs and your primary needs are decoding all audio codecs + future proofing + value, then the PS3 is the right answer.

I'd recommend the new Panasonic DMP-50 player. I have been more than happy with my DMP-30 player. Excellent PQ, and pretty reasonable load times. Also, I really like having a stand-alone player.

But isnt the new Panasonic DMP-50 going to cost like $700? I cannot see myself paying that kind of price for a blu-ray player especially if there is other models available that do the same thing...is there such a model?

Sure...the DMP-30. I bet the price will drop once the -50 comes out. I'm just very anti-PS3. I have no interest in owning a gaming console.

RUR,

What would I utilize by using analog outs? Do most people still use that and do I need it for future upgrades or better sound quality...etc? I appreciate your input!

Other than the idea of not owning a gaming console does the PS3 have all the same features as the DMP-30 or is the Panasonic a better overall player together? Thanks

Jeremy,

If you have an AVR with HDMI input, you don't need analog.

The big difference between the PS3 and the -30 is that the PS3 is profile 2.0. Personally I could care less about the 2.0 profile. Heck, I really don't even use the 1.1 features.

The profile 2.0 is something coming this year with more features in the movies...etc right? If you was in my position what would you buy with a budget of $500 I want to get the best bang for my buck.

PS3 already has BD-Live (2.0), it's fast, has good upscaling, decodes all the audio codecs and is terrific value for the money.

I hate to ask so many questions but I just want to get something that technology will be effiencient and will have all the bells and whistles if I need it down the road.
