I'm pretty sure Mel Gibson is Mad Max more to Mel Gibson than anybody else and he doesn't even care, "and that's all I have to say about that."

There's nothing worse than an Internet rumor, but I'll admit that I was kind of hoping this one would turn out to be true. Over the weekend, a story ran on Ain't It Cool News sparking a rumor that Patrick Stewart had joined the cast of the upcoming fourth "Mad Max" movie, "Fury Road." A lot of names have been flying around in connection with the movie and Stewart, speaking to a fan in Australia, said that he'd be working next with "Mad Max" creator George Miller on something that he said is not "Happy Feet 2."

"Fury Road" was of course the obvious assumption, but we decided to find out from a firsthand source before running anything. Stewart's publicist informs us that the rumors are untrue. Simple as that.

Move along people. There's nothing more to see here.

Since Mel is'nt on board, i'll wait for the reviews to come out before i see it.
Now if some one would start a real discussion/poll: What was the best Mad Max film!

Wonder where the casting news has been, there was a lot going on in January, but this project has been strangely silent since Nicholas Hoult was cast back than. If they are indeed still shooting this summer, I hope we get updates soon.

FINALLY, Tom Hardy gives us an update. I was beginning to think the news would never come. Some of the things he says are rather disturbing lol, but um I hope atleast the part about the cat and the bath tub is just based on guessing and not actual experience. Otherwise that's pretty damn frakked up Tom. Not too sure about the look they are going for, but I wonder if he's taking 30 pounds dropped from what he he looked like in Bronson, or 30 pounds dropped to where he's going to look like Bale in The Machinist.....

Quote:
Earlier today I got to sit down with Tom Hardy for an extended interview about his work in Christopher Nolan’s Inception. Of course with Hardy scheduled to play Max Rockatansky in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, the conversation eventually segued into where the production is right now. According to Hardy (who was very careful not to reveal too much):

“It’s a relaunch and revisit to the world. An entire restructuring. That’s not to say that it’s not picking up or leaving off from the Mad Max you know already, but it’s a nice re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world but bringing him up to date by 30 years.”

The big question everyone wants to know is when is the movie going to be in front of the cameras. Hardy said:

“I can’t say when I’m going to be in front of the cameras. I’m actually headed tonight to Australia to start some stunt-training. I’m training now. I’m meant to drop 30 pounds so smoking and one meal a day is my training at the moment. I’m going to start fighting soon. The harder stuff, as we get close to the line. I’ll probably get three or four months of fight training out there. Seven days a week. All that kind of horrible shit.”

With rumors the movie is shooting for an extended amount of time, I asked if he was going to train for three months and then shoot for a year. He replied:

“Shooting is probably nine months. Training is allocated as two months. We don’t know if that’s going to push a little bit or come up a little bit. It’s a gray area. There’s very anomalies and shifting papers. All kinds of people’s shifting schedules, from what I’m aware, need to be tied down. The movie is absolutely healthy. It is going, it’s just a question of, not if, when precisely.”

After speaking with Hardy today for about 30 minutes, I think he’s going to deliver the goods as Mad Max. Look for the full interview very soon and here’s everything we’ve posted on Mad Max: Fury Road until now. Here’s everything he said about Mad Max today:
-

Question Can you talk about how you got involved? Is that shooting? Is it ready to go?

Tom Hardy:
I’m obviously limited as to what I can say. These things are always binded to secrecy and I think that’s a good thing for the film anyway. I’m not allowed to give away anything. Without incriminating myself in any way, it’s a very big film. To step into the shoes of Mel Gibson. George and Mel created the franchise Mad Max, which started off as an independent which then blew up. It took off. It became the Mad Max as you know it with t-shirts and DVDs. No computer game yet, but you know it was early days. This was back before internet. Before all that sort of stuff. I was born the year it came out, so now it’s very funny that I’ve now been asked to play Mad Max. I spent hour hours. It was kind of an anomaly. There were many, many actors that would probably be right for Mad Max and there’s many out there who could probably do an exceptional job to portray him. It’s especially a challenge to step in the shoes of such an iconic character. I’m aware that I’m going to take a certain number of casualties when I go in and play him.

If I concentrate on that, it’s obviously not going to be the best thing for the project. We have to take it differently as George is taking it. It’s a relaunch and revisit to the world. An entire restructuring. That’s not to say that it’s not picking up or leaving off from the Mad Max you know already, but it’s a nice re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world but bringing him up to date by 30 years. Mel would be perfect for it but, for some reason, he’s not doing it and I am. You can expect the same amount of grit and rawness and authenticity and performance, I hope to deliver. But that’s really the crux of me and George to deliver and all the other actors as the other characters. But also we have the new world afforded to filmmakers today with all the opportunities. I think the boys that did Lord of the Rings are involved. That kind of stuff as well. CGI is not going to be — I think it’s going to be much more about how you deal with action. These things are going to be really there. Big rigs, big explosions, big car crashes. Big violence, you know. It’s going to actually happen as opposed to doing a 2D turned to 3D screen. It’s going to be an adventure, let’s put it that way. We’re shooting for a year.

You mention shooting in Australia? Have they decided to displace the geographic non-specificity of the original?

Tom Hardy:
It’s absolutely the same spot. The same spot.

So you’re going to have an Australian accent?

Tom Hardy:
This is a new area to me. It’s up to people like George. I don’t know. I don’t know. Whatever suits the revisit. It would be bold for me to give you an honest answer now. I don’t know and a lot has to be left to the process. It depends on what feeds the project for the best of the project, always.

You’re dropping 30 pounds?

Tom Hardy:
I’ve already dropped it.

Are you aiming for a muscular cut, being very thin? What the look you’ve envisioned?

Tom Hardy:
Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the ****ing water. You know what it looks like? That’s what I’m going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry at very dangerous. It’s imperative. This is the kind of guy who’s not well. So I have to create that reality.

I'm ambivalent. Tom Hardy is an excellent actor. But a Mad Max movie without Mel feels wrong....

I just have a hard time getting excited about a Mad Max movie without Mel. Maybe I'll feel different once I see a trailer.

Yeah based on what Tom said definitely atleast 2012. He said he will have several months of training, and than they shoot for nearly a year, and they don't even have a start date so I'd imagine pre-production hasn't really started either. Probably summer of 2012 at the earliest which is really aggravating, I was hoping for next summer.....

This could be an interesting movie. However, i'm far more interested in seeing a Blu-Ray release of the original movie.
Anyone know if MGM are working on it, or if in fact they still own the rights???
Looking forward to a high def Toecutter!

+1 I would love the first on Blu. Heck i would love a trilogy box set even if the third is pretty bad.
As for the 4th i will wait for a trailer to make a decision.

I'm a big Tom Hardy fan, so I am really pumped to see him and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Inception. I hope they both become huge stars after that movie, so hopefully by the time this comes out, everyone will know who Tom is. Bronson was amazing.

Bronson was a pretty cool movie. I hadn't seen too many Tom Hardy films before that, but I'm a fan now! Same with Joseph Gorgon-Levitt after I watched 500 Days of Summer recently

I'd seen Tom off and on in several things ever since he was in the best episode of Band of Brothers nearly a decade ago.

If you're new to JGL's work, you MUST check out; Brick, The Lookout and Manic. I love all of his movies, but those are incredible and they really showcase his versatility and talent.

Wow, that's right. I just looked him up and he was in BOB and Black Hawk Down. And thanks for the JGL recs, I've been meaning to see The Lookout for a while. I just added the other 2 to my Netflix Instant Watch list

George Miller Shooting MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and MAD MAX: FURIOSA Back-to-Back?
Quote:
Director George Miller is reportedly shooting Mad Max: Fury Road back-to-back with an unannounced sequel entitled Mad Max: Furiosa. Twitch reports that the films are being shot back-to-back for a rapid release. This is the first we’ve heard about a second sequel, let alone one that’s being shot back-to-back with Fury Road. While this may sound surprising, some of you may remember in October 2009 when we reported that filming would take place over 30 weeks (an average shoot is about six weeks). While that shooting schedule sounded like a crazy amount of time, star Tom Hardy recently told Steve that “Shooting is probably nine months.” That’s quite a lot of time for one movie, but for two movies, it makes a lot more sense.

Just watched The Runaways earlier this week, and couldn't put my finger on it but I thought there was something very familiar about Kristen Stewart's older sister in the movie. Well after reading this, I now know what it was, lol. Her lineage.

Riley Keough May Take Road Less Traveled
Quote:
Riley Keough (The Runaways) is apparently close to landing a role in director George Miller’s fourth Mad Max installment, Mad Max: Fury Road. If cast, the young actress would join Tom Hardy (Inception), Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult (Clash of the Titans) in the film. According to Heat Vision, Keough would play “one of the ‘Five Wives,’ a group of women that Hardy must protect from the bad guys.” Sounds pretty self-explanatory if you ask me…

In case you’re lacking your daily Riley Keough “fun fact,” here’s one for you: she is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and musician/actor Danny Keough. If my math is correct, that makes her the granddaughter of “The King” Elvis Presley.

While an official synopsis has yet to surface, it is known that the film will take place shortly following the events of 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Moreover, the excellent Tom Hardy is set to take over the reigns of protagonist Max Rockatansky from media darling Mel Gibson. Currently, Miller is eyeing early next year to begin shooting the film.

As for the potential rock and roll team-up, Zoe Kravitz (The Brave One), the daughter of rocker Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, has already been cast in the film as one of the “Five Wives” which Keough is currently negotiating. There is no word on whether or not the two will be asked to perform a musical number or five within the film.

Question,

being a fan of the first 2 Mad Max films and Tom Hardy, I was wondering, is this going to be another of today's CGI infested action flicks, or a stunt driven film that could kick as much *** as the other ones? This could be really good if they went old school on this and hire stunt drivers, and not CGI crashing cars.
