According to dvdcompare, the German release seems to have some Hybrid cut at least. Still the best version probably, and it does seem to have the Thai soundtrack as well.

It looks like Thai cut will never see the light of day again .

There is a release in Thailand on Blu-ray from Happy Home Entertainment. I never picked it up during the times I visited. It looks to be out of print but if I see it when I am able to go back, I’ll buy it and check.

I am 99% sure it is the original Thai version but I know for sure there are no English subtitles.

According to a previous poster in this thread, the Thai BD sleeve lists a running time of 103 minutes and it has no English subs.

Yup, but again: no English subs.

Dug our my copy of the Madman disc. It’s cool to have the original Thai cut, but man, it’s an older disc, and it looks really rough.

Does anybody know the disc size of the German blu-ray? Was thinking about importing, adding English subtitles, and putting on a disc to watch.

I prefer the British DVD with uncut video and special re-recorded music score. Wish that would hit Blu. The original music track is pretty risible IMO.

These are my feelings, also. A ground-up 4K scan with the British score (and some corrected colour on some shots where it can be distractingly inconsistent) would be ideal (with optional original music). This film deserves better.

Question

I'm still trying to find a Region B version that has English subtitles. I don't actually care whether the menus are in another language anymore, lol.

The only Blu-rays with English subtitles are the American, Canadian and South Korean ones:

BUT they are all locked to Region A. However, is that actually verified or just assumed?

(God region locking is so weird and stupid if they're not going to release to the UK. They could only make more money. )

It only means that no UK label has so far purchased a license. Most rights-holders would prefer to lock because then they can sell the rights in different territories separately.

Still looking for confirmation on whether the Region A lock is assumed or effective.

Low key tempted to import the French disc because as per Caps-a-Holic it has the best PQ, although idk if it is cut or not, and run it through an 4K AI upscaler, colour correct it, burn in subtitles and burn it onto a 4K disc.

The Magnolia/Magnet release is Region A locked.

I've got a modded player and it played the disc no problem when set to Region A, but it gave me the region mismatch screen when I changed it to Region B.

Wonder if it will be the Besson cut or the fully uncut Thai version?

Nice to see both Ong Bak & Ong Bak 2 being released at the same day.

I dunno... something seems "off" about this. I figured an announcement would've been made, or something. Plus if it's coming out the same day as Ong Bak 2, I wonder if Magnolia/Magnet now has home distribution rights as opposed to Fox. I dunno, I'll believe this when I see it.

And if it DOES come out, I'm 99.99% certain it's the Besson/Europa cut.

FOX announces last-minute plans to bring the original 2003 film “Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior” to Blu-ray in February | HighDefDiscNews

this confirms it
