I got my blu-ray and just compared them the video quality isnt that much better than the SD DVD so I don't know what the other person was talking about...lol. I bought it anyways because I just want to get rid of all my DVDs but for people expecting a better transfer its not much different imo I would say when bluray.com reviews it they will give it a 3.0-3.5 max pq rating

I have it and I think the transfer is a lot better then the SD DVD. But that's just my opinion and everyone have different displays with different calibration settings, so I think the image quality will differ. Just my .2 cents...

Wow. Blu-ray.com waits 4 years to review this and then completely eviscerates it.

Skeleton Key is no great shakes but there are still some things to like here. Great, sweaty, swampy, gothic southern atmosphere being primary among them.

I know right. Did this film slip thru the review cracks in 2010 or what? Why even bother to review it now?

I always thought this was a good movie, but to each their own. I also seem to recall the transfer looking pretty good despite being an older encode. I haven't watched it on my FP yet, but I might just have to give it a spin very soon as it's been a while.

I'm glad it took four years for this review to come about.

I might have passed on a pretty good movie.

Come on... The review may eviscerate it, but it isn't a particularly insightful or even well-written review. It's basically an "opinion review" using a lot of "feel words" (obnoxious, unlikable, etc.) rather than an analysis, and that's fine, but it's one reviewer's personal opinion. Statements such as "a pace that leaves the audience wanting", where the reviewer presumes to speak not only for himself, but for THE AUDIENCE, are unfortunate. And then there are the type of awkwardly ungrammatical sentences that you'd forgive in a hastily scribbled forum post but which are sloppy in a review, such as "The film embraces the sort of mild, toned-down PG-13 Horror routine that's far too commonplace anymore [...]"

I personally enjoyed the movie, a fact which I don't really care to justify in this post, but as for the review, stick to the screengrabs and technical specs, and you'll be fine.

I think The Skeleton Key is an excellent supernatural thriller and far better than most of its kind. It's driven by several excellent performances, most of all by the legendary Gena Rowlands as the most
[Show spoiler]malevolent old witch since Ruth Gordon in Rosemary's Baby.
. Kate Hudson makes for a likeable lead when not cast in one of those terrible romcoms she mostly stars in. Unlike many horror films it actually has a good reason for its gothic ambiance
[Show spoiler](it's there to make the heroine believe in the supernatural because it only works on believers)
, the takes us into a realm of US folklore rarely explored and it features a genuinely clever twist. I still think the film is quite underrated. Since it came out, I've introduced the film to quite a few people who never heard of it and they all enjoyed it.

The reviewer to a large extend appears to review bottom of the barrel trash like the Asylum mockbusters and recently awarded a universally ridiculed fundamentalists Christian propaganda film 4.5 stars.

I agree with you on Skeleton Key.

I'm glad you pointed out that this was the same reviewer who gave 4.5 stars to God's Not Dead. I admit I haven't seen that film and I usually do not comment on movies I haven't seen. But I have read enough reviews of the film to ascertain that it stacks the deck shamelessly, setting up the professor as nothing but a huge strawman spouting "arguments" no self-respecting atheist would touch with a ten foot pole.

If this review,

http://www.faithstreet.com/onfaith/2...not-dead/31790

does not seriously misrepresent God's Not Dead, I don't see how anyone, including Christians, can give it the slightest bit of respect.

yeah that made me laugh.

most of these so called reviewers are unprofessional and laughable. they write as though they speak for everyone yet a review is just a personal opinion.

they should stick to technical specs but who really knows if they know what they are doing in that area also

I liked this movie. I have the DVD but don't really see the need to upgrade.

I can't believe the 3 stars for PQ. I formerly owned the HD-DVD and the PQ on that one was excellent.
Don't tell me that the PQ on the blu-ray is worse then the HD-DVD ...

Loved The Skeleton Key when I finally got around to watch it last year. But I am also a sucker for gothic horror.

+1. I only read the technical specs anyway. I never read the actual review of the film.
