If I focused on 10 minutes only of every film I watch, then the messages of those respective films would be drastically different than what one potentially would get out of the film as a whole. 10 minutes is irrelevant if the the other 90 are aimed at turning the corner.
Considering the main character constantly feels down up until the last 5 minutes of the film, it's obviously not aimed at turning the corner.

Did you even watch the movie?

But that's okay. I wouldn't expect you to agree, since you make it a point to argue with everything I say even when it's correct or a matter of opinion. If you think the movie is depressing, then that's on you. I personally don't see it that way and I don't know of many other ppl that do either. I find the ending to be very beautiful actually.
Hardly anything you say is correct, and you might want to put a cap on the 'help help I'm being repressed' notion that you have going. Considering that if you READ this thread, {and many others} you're the one that replied to my post, not the other way around.

Just curious: which other Pixar films do you all think were deserving of best picture nods in their respective years?

It deserves to be nominated in BOTH categories period...end of discussion.

I mean if mediocre films like Avatar and terrible films like Star Trek can be nominated I can not see why a great film like Up can not be nominated.

Next....

For me, I think Ratatouille (either my first or second favorite Pixar film, along with Up) could have and should have been nominated in 2008. I think it was a better film than Michael Clayton, which while good, was overrated. I also think it potentially could have been nominated over Juno.

That year I think Atonement was the best film. I also think The Assassination of Jesse James and Into the Wild could have been nominated for best pic.

I agree with ya!! If Avatar hadnt of been in 3-D, I hardly think that it would of been the success it has become seen as it is really just a fairly average film, just with a big budget.

We really should not turn this into an Avatar thread though. Those were just examples I was using because they will be nominated.

That explains why most of it's money wasn't made in the 3D theaters........

Do people think Coraline or Ponyo have a chance against it?

I'm betting Jack Black has his money on it.

Yep I agree, was just making a point that should be read and left alone.

On Topic, I DO think UP should've been nominated for Best Picture.

I love Wall-e, despite some hate on here for it, but I think I can understand why it didn't get it's nomination it was pushing for. To be honest, I thinkthe only other one I can think of is Ratatioulle, but I think that's a weak film to most of pixars work.

I liked the movie. Not so sure if I would say one of the years 10 best. It did seem a little run of the mill after the first half. But I understand the love the movie gets it was very well made.

Fair enough--just glancing at the films nominated in the years of the Pixar releases, I think Ratatouille had the best shot. Imo, Wall-E was the 15th best film of last year. It just didn't click with me the way other Pixar films have, but I certainly don't hate it.

The human element of it I think is what helped set it apart. Not to mention the opening montage, which is arguably the finest section of any Pixar film to date.
