Exclamation Does UP deserve an Oscar Nomination for BEST FILM?

If it was up to me, YES!!!

Without a doubt, Up was my fave film of last year, and many of you would put it as one of the best films of last year also. But my friend has a stereotypical view on Animation films, looking at them and saying that they are childish and incapable of having emotion and a good story. I told him he was wrong and that it so good that it was capable of receiving a best film nomination, he said no way, I said yes way. Now we have a tenner bet.

Here are my reasons as to why I think Up, has an incredible high risk of getting in.

1) 10 spaces for best film-Instead of the usual 5, the Academy have decided to up there game this year, as many films last year we're left out (not mentioning any names) but this year there have been very little out there for the award, with many films not going to be good and deserving of the nomination, meanwhile Up is of better quality than most those films.
2) Shutter Island delay-This left a lot of gaps in many peoples Oscar prediction lists, the one big film that felt like it was going to be a dead cert for the academy was pushed back to later Feb. And with so little being out as well, Up could swoop in take a place.
3) If blue alien cat people can get nominated, why not Up-I have nothing wrong with Avatar, I love the film, and I believe it will be the big winner of the Oscars, but if that film can get nominated why can't Up as well.
4) SUPRISE!!!!-Oscars have always tried to be surprising, but the big predictable winner is always Pixar, they are always miles ahead of the competition in every way possible, this ties into number 5 which is...
5) Pixar have always tried to get into the best film category-Come on, they been trying for years and years and years, and each year they are rejected, so they go back and up there quality and make another film bigger and better, so this could very well be there key in as...
6) The Academy always like a coming of age story-Hence why Up in the Air is baggsed a place in there, but Up has everything the academy love, endearing story, great character, fantastic acting.
7) A lot of other great animation movies this year- It's almost unfair most the competition has to go against Up, I would much rather see Fantastic Mr.Fox go away with the best animation award and Up go off with the big boys, It so much more deserving.
8) There will be rioting in the streets if it's not nominated-Ok I kid, but seriously, I will create a one man army and take down the academy by myself.

But obviously there is a downside also:

1) Academy will still be sour of an animation film in the best film category-Chances are that they are wary of a "kids" film in the best film category are high.
2) Could they be saving it for toy story 3?-This one is iffy but it still could be a possibility, the first Toy Story was groundbreaking, it did the same thing Avatar promises to do now, but the reason the academy might be want the sequel to the very first computer animated film ever to be a best pic nod, seems possible.
3) Might Up be too patronizing?-This is another strange one, but a film with such heavy themes are usually the Academy's fave, but a children's film could have a chance of being seen as down talking to the audience or under playing themes.

There are my reasons, what do you guys think?
