fail.
What are they going to do, have the theme song remade by Eminem?
The movie is wonderful as it is. Leave well enough alone.

Actually he's not THAT far off. I've heard Leo's production company "Appian Way" is involved in this. That's where the Leo is involved part came from, most likely.

Warner Bros is in the early stages of a reboot of the 1980s children's fantasy classic "The NeverEnding Story." The goal is to revive the 25-year-old franchise with a modern spin.

Born out of a German-language novel by Michael Ende, the film centers on a boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux who discovers a parallel world in a book titled "The NeverEnding Story." As the boy, a loner, delves deeper into the book, he increasingly finds his life intertwined with the plot of the novel, in which a hero in the land of Fantasia must save the universe on behalf of an empress.

The new pic will examine the more nuanced details of the book that were glossed over in the first pic. Those familiar with the project emphasize that it is in its early stages and that writers have not been attached.

Wolfgang Petersen directed the original for Warners, which earned a respectable $20 million when it was released in 1984. The film has had a long life on home video and an even larger influence on popular culture, prefiguring Harry Potter and other present-day children's fantasies.

A sequel directed by George Miller came out in 1990 and earned $17 million; a third movie followed in the U.S. in 1996 but quickly went to video.

Did we ever hear if there would be a 1080p lossless Limahl video? :>

I can't wait to have this on Blu-ray, but I have very modest expectations about the VQ.

I was talking about the feature film, not the music video.

All music videos from the 80s were shot on (bad) video tape, so I don't see how the video could be 1080p, though lossless 2-channel audio would be easy and if the video is included with the bonus matieral I hope it gets lossless audio.

I was joking about the video. Definitely a low budget sort of deal.
But I do have low expectations about VQ. Film stock in the 80s tended to be of a fairly low quality, and the special effects compositing likely won't hold up in high definition. Won't keep me from enjoying it though.

Audiences didn't complain when they saw 35mm projected prints of these films in the theater, so if the BD looks as good or better than those prints, we shouldn't complain now.

Not all films look like Avatar, nor should they. A Grainy 80's print with optical effects should look like a grainy 80s film with optical effects on blu-ray.

What does bother me is EE and DNR which introduce electronic artifacts that further mar the image beyond what the director intended to be seen.

Default The NeverEnding Story REMAKE??

Not sure if someone else started a thread about this - it's old news but I thought I would bring it up

I put on the original one today to play for my niece, who was reluctant to see it - After watching it, she wanted to watch it again LOL

I read this somewhere and I forgot that Leonardo DiCaprio's company and Warner Bros. want to remake this

Here's the info about it: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=53283

Why does Hollywood need to remake everything that is sacred to our childhood movies!!! Please leave it alone and come up with something ORIGINAL for once!!

thoughts??

Couldn't agree with you more...

on top of that, even if they could make a decent movie, how are they ever going to get people to play the parts as well as Noah Hathaway played 'Atreyu,' or Barret Oliver, 'Bastian?' And there's simply no way whatsoever, they'd ever be able to cast someone so perfectly gorgeous as Tami Stronach, for the part of the 'Childlike Empress.'

Considering how bad "The NeverEnding Story II: the Next Chapter" turned out...I'm surprised they'd even contemplate a remake...

You might want to be cautious before you buy the new Blu that just came out...and check out a the other forum boards for the film...I'm not going to go into a lot of detail here on this thread, but there's a lot of controversy regarding the 'color-timing' of the new release...

Well, er...someone made it anyway, I doubt it was the original producers.
(Given how they repeatedly misinterpret the original story in ways that merit the Double Super Facepalm. , with Jawdrop follow-through. )

One of the producers, Dieter Giessler, was a producer on both the previous movies. And the screenplay was based on a story by Karin Howard, who wrote the script to the second one.

I totally agree, NES needs a remastered version as this one was very poorly done.
A remake? Please why remake perfection????
What's next a remake of Gone With The Wind or African Queen?

I can believe it was the second one's writer.

(Giessler's name, OTOH, may have just been contractually attached.
