Or you could purchase seperate blu ray cases for an extra cost. What's next MGM? Going to release your own versions of bluray cases and try to sell them?

No wonder they're going bankrupt, I remember they were responsible for some HUGE movies back in the 80s.

There's a few more I'd like to pick up before they change over to the DVD cases.

The market has spoken, and Blu-ray remains but a niche in that market. MGM has figured out what I've known all along... that blu-ray will NEVER replace DVD's. Most people veiw the experience of Blu-ray replacing DVD, nowhere near the experience of DVD replacing VHS. That why it's a no-brainer. I hope other studios jump on this bandwagon. I love the duel discs so I can watch movies on my computers and my blu-ray players.

I guess the Rollerball you listed is not the 1975 Norman Jewison film.

No, it's the "new and improved" version.

These are all previously released titles by MGM.

no offense matey but you cannot in a million years call mgm " the market has spoken "
because if they actually listened to us we would have a lot more movies released from them .
in future dont base your arguments on a company that has fallen from grace yeah

This is TERRIBLE. I will NOT be buying any of that CRAP. Taking steps BACKWARDS. Who's running the show over there? Former Lab Monkeys deemed too dumb to contribute to science?

Let's hope Time Warner, Sony or News Corp. buys MGM quickly.

Then discontinue all their releases, and re-release them without this crap. BD/DVD Combo is fine, but in dvd-cases... I don't think so. What's next an extra VHS tape for your grandparents.

This is not about MGM... "MATEY"

Disney has been doing the same thing, and I bet you a Kangaroo that more will follow. You sound like someone who thinks blu-ray WILL replace DVD. Well... good luck with that! Blu-ray realeases are coming out WAAAAAY too slow IMO. By they time they catch up, they'll have holographic discs out.

I'm not understanding this concept at all. If the goal is to put DVD+blu-ray together to encourage joe-6-pack to upgrade, great. Then wouldn't it make sense to do this for NEW movies?

Who the hell wants the Terminator who doesn't already own it? Are there really a bunch of people holding out on owning The Last Waltz?

This move makes zero sense to me. And I see these titles selling quite poorly.

I get (and applaud) the concept of including both in the same package. I think that's great. People who don't have a BD player yet get a few discs in their collection to encourage an upgrade... people who have the BD player get a disc they can use in a kid's room, PC, car, whatever... but with THESE titles?

I'm wondering where many are getting the idea that these releases will replace the original Blu-rays. If anything, they might discontinue the original DVDs, because that's what these are: DVDs with an extra Blu-ray.

There's really no reason for anyone to become angry about this. In fact it's a good thing and may make more people buy Blu-ray players to try out the extra disc they got with their purchase. I don't think anyone complained that the DVD+Blu-ray of Snow White had an optional DVD case configuration, and that was the exact same thing.

I would definitely buy the first one if it came to Blu, but the decision would be much harder if it came in a crappy old DVD case.

Can someone please explain to me why everyone is so bent out of shape about this? Nobody is forcing you to buy these things. You can still get the older versions in the regular blue cases.

Seriously, what's the big deal?
