I mentioned this in another thread somewhere the hitcher is an 80s classic i own the UK studio canal DVD the picture quality is pretty good but would still be a buy from day one if it ever came to BR

Well The Hitcher was released on this day 32 years ago and is streaming in HD on HBO Now.

As for the blu ray, Director Robert Harmon said one year ago at his cinema family Q&A that it was in the works and the rights to the film are now with producer Charles R. Meeker .

The Hitcher is a classic '80's horror/suspense film, and the only physical media version we have is the sub-par DVD. The DVD has possibly the worst PQ of any DVD I've seen - there are "lines" running through the picture in numerous scenes, as if it were a bad VHS transfer. Unacceptable in this day and age.

It's high time for this to be released on Blu.

yes its on streaming sites like HBO but the quality is not good....and its in 4:3

I think Scream Factory has plans to acquire this movie to get a CE blu-ray with new 2K or 4K remastering, i'm betting on it.

Speaking of this topic HBO had a episodic series called the Hitchhiker. It was in the same vane as the twilight zone. Does any one know if the series was ever released on Blu Ray

FYI The Hitcher is available to watch on HBOGO/HBONOW (it says in HD even). It's not a BD release, but if you want to see it right now there you go.

Seems like Nameless (german company) is first out with a blu-ray. Just saw they announced it on facebook that they will release the movie in a few mediabooks with diffrent covers and a 2K scan. Probably new scan?

Nice but I'll just hold off until I see some proper screen caps and then, if it's worthy, wait for a cheaper non-mediabook release. I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer.
