Sorry Stewie!

It's interesting though.. I would have thought that more would say yes, they would pay. The information we get here is fantastic! I would pay (unless it was something outrageous). Would have thought more would!

No problemo Gar,

But I think John made a very good point. If you had to pay for it, then there has to be benefits included. Otherwise, it just wouldn't make sense.

No I wouldn't pay for a membership. However, when I buy a new blu-ray from Amazon, I make sure to go there via this site so the site receives a little kickback.

You're listed as a blu-ray king again. Are you still a mod?

I agree, the Amazon links are a great way to help the site, but not everyone uses them. And quite often you would find a blu-ray cheaper else where, so it is by no means the solution.

I realise it will probably never happen.. but I was just curious to see how people would react to the suggestion..

Personally I think it's a great question! It may not be a consideration now or ever (by today's standards), but then again...maybe it will.

I would certainly pay the yearly fee as long as my contacts also paid the fees. Otherwise I would have to hesitate.

Do I think this (charging a fee) will happen? No. Prospective new members would probably never get past the link asking how they would like to make their payment which would (IMO) shrink membership and defeat one of the purposes of this site to educate about Blu-ray and high-def in general.

But speaking for myself, I would have no problem with a fee. But I will continue to express my thanks to all of the great members and staff who take the time to help us lay-folks out. I simply would not be where I am now otherwise. And, yes, I will continue to use the links from here to Amazon....

What about something like this????

Just thinking because I have my own web site (a small one) and it costs me a bit just to keep it on a server somewhere and mine takes very little storage space. My guess is that Blu-Ray.com has a large storage bill plus many, many hours of someone's time and effort. Plus, my guess is that Amazon doesn't pay much for referrals.
It's an interesting suggestion you made Jim..

Again, this is all hypothetical.. IF the site needed money, would you help? I only posed the question as it came in to my head the other night.

For those concerned about not attracting the new members if there was a "method of payment" process on registration, how about registering for free, and after say 6 or 12 months, new members would get a PM saying "You have been a member of the forum for 1 year now. To continue this membership we require $5…"

What then for existing members? When would they have to pay? Immediately? Or in 6 or 12 months time like new members? (from date of implementaion)

I think a lot of people would "renew" their membership! The info one gets here is invaluable! The community itself is extremely friendly and great to be a part of!

In a world where people pay a dollar or two for pointless apps that might only be used once, I don’t think it's too far fetched to expect people to pay $5 for access to this site.

Like many others have said already, I do help pay and support this site by using the amazon links for any movies I'll be buying off of amazon. Alot of the movies on Amazon are very reasonably priced if the cheapest I can find is only a buck or two less then I'll always come here to pay through amazon. Kind of like buying local. If it's feasible and I'm only out a couple bucks then why not support something that you want to see succeed instead of feeding someone else's wallet.

John
I know, I doubt there will ever be the need... just IF it was needed to keep the site afloat from going under tomorrow, from the reactions so far, we would be saying goodbye to this site tonight.. Imagine that...

lol! Wow.. He certainly doesnt look like he would pay $5! You are right, they would lose out by losing a load of members.. but money talks..

It's just a question to get people thinking..
