It irks me with CSI - I was quite happy watching it on DVD, and don't mind still watching CSI NY on it, but after seeing season 8 and 9 on blu ray, I just can't bring myself to get season 10 on DVD... I'm going to have to get it eventually though.

I would say there's not a lot on blu-ray because the prices are appalling which leads to low sales. Why should I pay $50 for Flashpoint Season 1 or South Park season 12 when Flashpoint has a meager 13 episodes and even worse southpark has 14 but those are of the 22-25 minute variety. However a show like NCIS: LA has twenty four 45 minute episodes for $50 which isn't too bad. Is $50 the going rate no matter how much content there is? Don't even get me started about the fleecing price for Firefly. When it was on sale for $29.99, to me that felt like the price it should have been permanently ($35 max).

First you not going get shows on HD any time soon do to money problem .In US the FCC had to get them to go from analog to digital and Canada the CRTC is doing it some time 2011 or 2012 .It be other 15 to 20 years for the FCC or CRTC to order to all HD.
sorry but HD is still in its infancy do to money problem .The reason for fast switch over from VHS to DVD was hollywood producers and production companies spend billions to force the people of VHS that why the switch was much faster .Now producers and production companies do not want to spend too much money to get every thing to HD. That is why 90% on TV is not in HD and 99% TV shows are not in HD to buy. And do not forget that most stores wanted VHS to die fast and where also forcing people this is not the case with DVD the stores are not forcing people by having less and less DVD and more and more blu ray. |

Other thing is MGM hates blu ray so you will not see shows like Stargate Atlantis or Stargate SG1 in blu ray.And Stargate Atlantis is easy to bring out in blu ray. MGM hates sony so you will not see MGM bringing out blu ray. So for the Stargate Atlantis fans and Stargate SG1 fans you are out of luch. |

The Stargate franchise is important to MGM, along with James Bond The Hobbit movies should help MGM money problems once they're completed. I don't know how it all works but Fox is doing the distribution for Stargate series and they don't seem to be in any rush to release them on Blu-ray. MGM and Fox did release Stargate Universe so far. Personally I've been waiting for Stargate Atlantis to be release on Blu-ray. I did not buy any of the DVD seasons because I heard they were planning to release Season 1 on Blu-ray. That was when Sony was doing the distribution, but then Fox Home Entertainment took over. |

wow this is 2 year thread.
Not sure why NCIS is not on blu ray it not that old. Where CSI and law and order have so many seasons and spin off's like CSI New York and CSI Las Vegas so on it will cost alot of money and take along time to do. But NCIS only has 7 seasons and the 8 is still being filmed |

The reason why studios haven't committed to releasing TV shows to Blu-ray is because consumers aren't realloy embracing the format where Blu-ray is concerned.
While Blu-ray is still several years old, your average consumer cannot afford the premium prices that the studios are demanding for their boxed sets. With shows like Battlestar Galactica and LOST costing around $75 for each season set and a series like "The Prisoner" that costs around $100, the studios have priced TV show Blu-rays out of their own budgets. The main consumers who are buying Blu-ray TV shows are those who can afford to drop a couple of hundred dollars down at a time. With the economy and the prices of Blu-ray, most consumers are sticking with affordable "bargain bin" Blu-ray titles. Personally, I've been sticking with Walmart's $8, $10 and $12 Blu-rays along with their $15 2-packs. Only because it's more affordable for movies than it is with TV shows. |

I can see CSI and law and order will cost alot of money and take long time do to so many seasons and spin off's like CSI New York and CSI Las Vegas so on
![]() But NCIS only has 7 seasons come on.And 6 and 7 seasons was being filmed way after blu ray came out.It should not cost them much or be to hard to bring it out in blu ray. I'm surprised there no press release saying coming 2012 or 2013.They must have some plan time table when it is coming to blu ray. Last edited by nec1912; 05-18-2011 at 10:49 PM. |

The problem with stargate SG1 and star trek is they will have to redo every episode and special effects that why it cost alot of money and I mean alot of money and take a long a very long time.May be 10 to 15 years. But NCIS was shot at much higher resolution than blu ray.All they have do is transfer to Blu-ray it will cost hardy any thing and take very little time. Well CSI and law and order will be big problem.Do to low resolution and so many seasons and spin off's like CSI New York and CSI Las Vegas so on . |

What you're continuing to forget is that it still costs the studios additional money to remaster each episode to Blu-ray. With long running shows like NCIS, they have to justify the cost and considering where the economy is at and that entertainment fans aren't buying into TV shows on Blu-ray because of the cost of each season set ... there just isn't a big demand among consumers.
If studios would lower the costs on TV sets down to around $50-60 per season, instead of the SRP of $70-80 (before discount stores like Best Buy and Walmart mark them down) then I'm sure that fans would jump on these releases. The fact is, that consumers look at prices on TV show season sets and they balk at those prices, especially when they are on a budget. |
