I am fortunate to have really good neighbors, but one of them a couple houses down has a huge house next to him that is being rented out, and the current tenants are terrible...... he put up an 8' "Spite Fence" as he calls it..... as 8' was the maximum building codes would allow..... he had to get the person who owned the house next to him to approve it, but he threatened to make the lives hell for anyone who lived there if she didn't
![]() edit: maybe it's 6' or 7' I thought 8' though ![]() |

Or at the very least, a say in whether the renters are approved (and remain approved). I've been lucky in not having to deal with any problem renters around me, and most neighbors have all been pretty cool.

My point was that acting out or misbehaving, etc., does not go unnoticed and unpunished in my house. But the punishment has to be consistent with the crime. If they say "NO, DADDY!" I don't break out the belt and make them cry. But they'll know we don't accept or tolerate that way of speaking, and with time, it doesn't happen again. Have I hijacked yet another thread? ![]() |

If she colors outside the lines, won't eat all her peas, cries, pulls the cat's tail, or talks back to Mommy or Daddy, I feel it's not. It's my way of parenting and it's not perfect. I'll accept suggestions and criticism from other parents all day long. I want to do the best I can do. But, like you referenced, when a non-parent tries to give me their 0.02 on the issue, it's laughable. |

I feel for you - I have had a rental townhouse directly next door to me for the last 4 years or so...(we were almost out when the housing market crashed but are stuck there for a little while)
I was priveleged for a few years with good rental tennants (1 holy man and 1 young professional couple) but the last group in there was a group from hell. They moved in @ 8:30 on 4/30 2009 - they stopped paying rent around August. They had the water and electricity turned off around Christmas and were finally evicted in January. They left all kinds of trash and crap behind, had at least 1 rat in their house (how do you get grey city rats living in the country?) and drilled holes in the firewalls and I think they tried to break into my house once because my lockset didn't work one day after I got home from work. The best part was that they had 3 kids and were pregnant with twins, the father worked for a welding company and parked a huge Ford 550 in the street all the time and he was a drug addict - the wife and him fought and there was always yelling...FUN!! My 3 dogs HATED those kids who would torment them all the time. We don't have a fenced in yard and when the dogs go out, they are always on a leash. But like OP, my dogs don't know kids and while they are generally OK, their jumping and attempts to give kisses may be perceived as "aggressive". My dog I got from the pound loves to protect us and can be vicous if he is left to his own devices but he is more confused than anything and getting better each time he socializes with more people. But bravo for telling those kids not to do it..."kids being kids" is this ass' excuse because he wasn't raised properly...what self respecting man walks around with a open container of wine anyway? ![]() I remember as a kid, someone had a dog named Patrick...he barked and scared the sh!+ out of us all the time and once I banged the fence to try to get him to stop...the owner came out and told me that if I did anything like that again, he would put his foot so far up my a$$ that my parents would have to pay a doctor to get it removed...LESSON LEARNED and I did NOT tell my parents about that one! |

This thread is cracking me up. Lol.
![]() I myself am 30. I was raised to respect others, yes ma'am, yes sir, so on. To this day, when I go shopping for pet supplies and there are dogs on leashes walking around the store. I NEVER go up to a dog and start petting them. Ever. I ask their owners if it's ok to pet them. You never know. The dog may not liked to be touched but is ok otherwise. The owner may not like it. Who knows. It's just common sense. |
