So, I've been e-mailing Well Go back and forth today, and they said they see the pixelization issues, but aren't having any trouble with the disc skipping/freezing. So, they're setting up an exchange for me.

I guess when people start getting their discs, we'll see if it's just my copy or a widespread problem.

Ah yeah, the review even says 1080i, haha. I wasn't observant on that I guess - but hell, I didn't even notice! It was an old martial arts film that I had never seen, so my expectations were very low. No freezing, no pixelization.

what exactly do you mean "they see" the pixel issue...did you send them screenshots or did they try out one of their discs themselves?

It's almost like macroblocking, but it's in 6 or 7 big chunks that fill up the screen. It must be an error with the actual encode, since they see it on their copies too.

On a positive note, though, Five Brothers works/looks great. No issues with is so far.

Just finished Heroic Ones Blu-ray. PQ looked & played well.

However, according to asianbluray.com, video resolution on these films are 1080i.

Yeah, they are all 1080i as far as I can tell.

The AQ for all of these are about as good as could be expected, everything is presented relatively clearly, but they're not what I would call great tracks.(3/5) They are all stereo LPCM. I believe Heroic Ones and Delightful Forest have both a Mandarin and English track, while Brothers Five has only a Mandarin track even though the disc has it listed as english.

The PQ is generally good, on par with 36th chamber of shaolin or slightly better. There are a few instances where they use a long zoom lens where the image is notably softer and some scenes lack dynamic contrast because of lighting or scenery(read: smoke). (3.5/5)

There are no special features to speak of.

All in all, the price is low enough that martial arts fans should consider purchasing. If you own these on DVD however, I'm not sure of how much an upgrade these discs will be.


Delightful Forest has a moment of dramatic pixelation as a scene is encumbered by three horizontal bars for a few seconds. This disc also skipped twice, once it seemed to jump back about a second. These all happened very early on giving one the impression of a bad disc, but the issues did not present themselves again. They appear to be digital errors, not inherent to the source, so hopefully there will be some word on a replacement program from Well Go Usa, but that may be wishful thinking.

Dr. Nuts, keep us posted on the your correspondence regarding this issue and whether your replacement disc exhibits these problems as well.

I got an e-mail today from "Steve" he informs me that it will take the 2 weeks to get the problem corrected. Any discs that are sold now will have the defect.

Well, of course the first disc I pick up to watch is The Delightful Forest, and I'm seeing the exact same issues with the disc as has been reported here. I just went over to their website, and they now have this posted in their "Contact Us" page:

The Delightful Forest - Defective Blu-ray

It has come to our attention that The Delightful Forest blu-ray release, UPC 812491011126 is defective. The replicator has tracked this to a glass master problem and takes full responsibility for the subsequent QC issue. We apologize for the inconvience this may have caused you. Corrected discs are being replicated now and will be available next week.


INSTRUCTION FOR REPLACEMENT:
1.) Return to original point of purchase.
IF consumer is UNABLE to return to original point of purchase due to a sellers Return/Exchange Policy, then proceed to the following:

The Heroic Ones and Brothers Five look great. Great color, and a dirt scratch free print. Very happy with those two. I am hoping to get my replacement disc for The Delightful Forest soon.
