I think that it wouldn't matter anyway, as per IMDb only two running times are listed 122 min & 132 min.

This version might well be on the BD, especially since it's rumored to be a Ultimate Collector's Edition.
Interesting -- although I think the version on my 25th Anniversary DVD runs the full 74 minutes (or thereabouts). Still, I hadn't even heard that they'd cut out the interviews with McCambridge and others...wow.

BBC may have only have been willing to license out the documentary in a cut form to WB for that dvd. For all the things from the BBC that WB releases on home video, the BBC retains full control and ownership.

I'd buy the multi-disc set.

Oh mate it certainly does matter. The '25th Anniversary Theatrical' replaces the original jump cut with a morph in this scene;

and changes the ending

The US DVD has the full 75min version, where as the UK release has the 52min version.

So there are 3 cuts, the 'version you've never seen', the original theatrical, and the 25th anniversary theatrical? What's the big difference between the theatrical cuts.. just the above mentioned change in the ending? (and I dont understand KaiGusto, a jump cut to a morph of what changes the ending how?)

I believe a blue filter was placed over the film for the 25th Anniversary edition which bugged a lot of people.

Personally I prefer the Version You've Never Seen (as that was the first version of the film I saw). I cannot wait to pick this blu up.

Yep, three cuts The morph doesn't change the ending, its just one of the changes, the actual ending is changed. I was lucky enough to score a copy of the original theatrical dvd (which also contains original mono audio) for $NZ10 a few years ago. I got all three versions now

To explain the 'morph', its when
[Show spoiler]Father Karras has just become possessed by the demon, and instead of a sudden jump cut from 'possessed' Karras to 'normal' Karras, before he jumps out the window, they morph the transition.

Ooh, ok, thanks for that! It's the 'version you've never seen' which is the one I'm most familiar with so I'll be happy with that.

Is this BBC documentary presented by Mark Kermode? I think I heard he made one, he has written the BFI's book on The Exorcist as well. He's my fave film critic and thinks The Exorcist is the greatest film ever made, and I'd love to see the documentary, too bad there is a heavily cut version, hopefully it'll all be on the new BD.

Yeah, the doco is hosted by Mark Kermode, and it's terrific -- one of the best of the past 15 or so years, containing interviews with several folks who are no longer with us. That said, I'd love to see the Mercedes McCambridge interview segments one of these days.

Just to be clear, the Mercedes McCambridge and James Ferman (UK censor) interviews are not included on the 25th Anniversary region 1 DVD, so it's still cut.

First I've heard of this. Big ending change from the original to the VYNSB, but what ending change is there from the first DVD to the 25th Anniversary DVD?

Its been a while since I've popped it in, but im sure it has the 'beautiful friendship' ending which is also on the 'Version you've never seen'.

Yeah, that's what I meant, there. I was originally hoping WB would release those clips in R1 down the road, but I'll go check out those forums instead. (Thanks for the tip!)

I don't think it does...I think it's still the original ending, because that's the only way I'd have seen the original non "friendly" ending...

I'll have to pop it in again and check. The morph is definitely in the 25th though.

Yeah that's there. But remember that the 25th Anniversary DVD came out in 1998, two years prior to TVYNS being released theatrically.
