Captainhowdy.com says the annoucement is right around the corner and that the special features are done, but I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything?

On the special features of French Connection William Friedkin says he`s working on bringing The Exorcist to Blu-ray. But all the grain haters will absolutely hate The Exorcist on Blu-ray because it will be every bit as grainy as French Connection.

I have a better question. Can someone honestly explain to me why this is labeled the scariest movie of all time?

The graininess I didn't mind (loved it actually). The changed colors and crushed blacks were the problem to my mind. If it had been released with the colors unchanged it would've been a perfect looking disc.
Friedkin is using the same process for The Exorcist, but now Owen Roizman apparently is also working on it. He hated what Friedkin did on TFC, so I guess it will turn out all right.

From the archive footage I've seen, people really, really freaked out when they went to see the movie. Screaming, fainting, hysteria and the like was a constant.
However, that was 1973 and a very different time than 2009. You have to keep it in perspective. I suppose even today, deeply religious people may find it scary and horrific to this day.

Well I think it's the scariest movie of all time. May I ask what you consider the scariest movie of all time?

I totally understand that people where upset about the colour manipulation, me i didn`t mind the changes that much because it's in tone with the Film and i understand what Friedkin had in mind when he did it. And if it was up to the studio they probably would`ve tried to make the French Connection look glossy, which i would`ve hated. On the other hand you got to admit that what Friedkin did is not as bad as the George Lucas Syndrome where you go and change everything with Computer effects to the point where it looses it`s vintage feeling.

Friedkin definately pulled a Lucas when he released the new version. I loathe that version with the stupid spiderwalk(original spiderwalk was truly terrifying) and non necessary special effects which take away from the story. I also HATE the new sappy ending. They better release both versions on one disc.

@blu-ron
Exorcist truly is the scariest movie ever, just look at Playblu08's avatar.

I think the whole directors cut of the Exorcist was unnecessary. But i think it was the usual Studio way to cash in on a allready good selling Title. And it was allways William Peter Blatty who wanted the longer version with the upbeat ending, somwhere allong the way Friedkin agreed to do it. Because on the old DVD there was exactly this conversation and Friedkin stating the original Version that did run in the Theaters was his Directors Cut.

I really want both cuts. I like the original, but I also like the spiderwalk scene. I hope WB includes both, though I'm not sure it would be possible via seamless branching, so they may have to include two BDs in the set, which I'm not sure they'd do.

That being said, this is my favorite horror film of all time, and I would really like to see it on Blu-ray.

There are certain Scenes particulary in the first third of the Movie in the Directors Cut which make absolutely sense in showing the changes of Regan, which allways felt a bit jumpy in the original but the ending and the whole Cop and Priest frienship part adds an emotion i don`t particulary like and don`t associate with Movie i allways liked and saw countless times over the years. But the Movie deserves a triple disc edition both cuts and one disc for the special features.

I would have been old enough to see it originally in theatres...just didn't for some reason. Maybe cause I finally saw it last month for the first time. I'm sure it was a shocker back in the seventies.

What scares me? Not Horror movies. It's my favorite genre and I guess I'm desensitized after 30 plus years of it. I get more creeped out playing Silent Hill 1 or 2.

What scares me now is when my Paranormal team and I go on an actual case. I've seen stuff that would make a grown man cry.

Default Scariest Movie?

The Excorcist is just a great Movie whether it`s scary or not is besides the point what really is bothering me is that today they wouldn`t release a new prestigious Movie with a scene like the "F*** me Jesus!" one. This would be to much of a risk but the Exorcist was allways liked by the Catholic Church because it portays them in favorable light so it did work out pretty well. And it was in the seventies that American Cinema had is last great moment. But then again maybe that`s just me.

Thats cool! So being that you are on a paranormal team, you must believe in ghosts and spirits or supernatural forces, right? Let me ask you this...How scary do you think it would be if a ghost or spirit or some supernatural force took control of you body or even invaded your very soul?
Thats what I believe people find scary about "The Exorcist".
