I heard the first release on blu was a shoddy transfer which looked pretty dire, so I hope this is a sparkly transfer, I don't care about extras but "fully loaded" sounds like it will have plenty.

Watching this one with interest.

Absolutely, i would love to see a new transfer but i'll lay money on this being the same transfer that's already out there at present.

Goodfellas comes to mind.

Never seen these films but I'd really like to. What was wrong with the discs in the 2-pack? I've heard bad things.

Predator suffers from compression artifacts and some noise which the MPEG-2 encode most likely would not have helped with. Having said that, I own the release and despite the negative aspects of it the majority of the film still looks quite good and based on the screenshots for the new release I'd take some compression artifacts over a loss of natural grain and detail any day. Quite a few of the jungle scenes look particularly good.

Predator 2 has some DNR and EE. It's not hugely intrusive though, but all the same it's there. It does result in a slightly processed look, but judging it by this new Predator release it's a work of art.

I picked up the double pack from CDWow! last year and I managed to get it for $19.95AU (about Ł12). The double pack comes in a slipcover (well it did when I bought it) and Amazon has it going for Ł12.99 at the moment. I'd highly recommend it as the price is good and clearly you won't get a better Predator release for some time based on this recent one. The database entry here is fully spec'd. I updated the entry some time ago with high quality scans of the art and all the specs are confirmed directly from the disc. I would definitely suggest picking this up now as Fox may begin releasing the double pack with the new Predator disc in it in the future.

Default German review

Use Chrome and translate.

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...ay-disc#review

"Grain (graining) is almost imperceptible and other errors, such as compression artifacts and aliasing (podium training) are not available."

Doesn't sound too good. I think.

Another German review @ HD-Reporter with English outline.

Quote:
- the picture was heavily treated with DVNR and/or degraining tools
- details are effectively lower than on the previous version
- picture looks somewhat “digital” or “artificial”
+ scenes in the jungle (with slow pans) offer (from a distance) a small bit of 3-dimensionality

Do you think there is any chance of the U.S. version using a different encode?

This is now known as PREDATOR : The Ultimate DNR'd Edition.

Im gonna pick up the original release again ASAP before their OOP or sky rocket in price.
