Yeah it's kind of sad people will miss out on superb films like "Downhill Racer" and "The Fugitive Kind" just because Criterion deemed the quality of the print not good enough to put on blu-ray. A movie is a movie, no matter the format, but people are so hung up on labels that they'd rather pass up a great film on DVD for a mediocre one on blu-ray -- just because it's blu-ray.

Some movies simply won't get a blu-ray treatment for a long time, if ever. DVD has much large catalog, so there's still reasons to buy dvd.

I'm sorry to say that I haven't bought a dvd since I started collecting blu-rays. My wife said its one or the other so I decided blu-rays.

I buy more DVDs than Blu. Only about 1/12 of my collection is Blu, other 11/12 are DVDs. I buy movie on Blu if I REALLY love movie and I know that I'll watch it more than twice.

I bought 8 DVDs just last week for $25 including shipping. I will buy really crappy movies like Love Guru and Basic Instinct 2 on DVD, but I would never get them on Blu-ray for fear that people would think that I really like those movies.

The only DVD's I've purchased in the last 18 months have been kids titles like Scooby Doo, etc that I can play in the car or Blu's that come with a DVD as part of a 3-pack, etc.

Otherwise, if it ain't Blu, no can do

I haven't bought a movie on DVD since I went Blu. I will still buy the occasional TV show on DVD if there isn't a Blu-ray option.

Is it already time for another "Do you still buy DVD's" thread? Uh oh... you know what that means... soon enough we're gonna get another "Which sounds better, DTS HD MA or Dolby TrueHD" thread...

I usually give the DVDs away to friends or family members. My niece is big into Disney/Pixar, so she gets all my DVDs, and I gave the Spaceballs DVD to a friend of mine. So I'm not even keeping the ones they give me...

I don't bother with DVDs anymore. They look so blurry and horrible.
If I'm dying to see the movie, and it's not available on blu-ray, I just download it from a torrent site.

I mostly avoid DVDs nowadays but I did buy a TV series on DVD a while back. I was pretty disappointed in the quality though (worse than watching it on an HD channel) so now, even with TV series, I plan to wait for a blu-ray release. If they don't release it on blu-ray, guess I won't get it.

As for my DVD collection, I've just been boxing up the DVDs as I replace them with blu-rays.

I have too many obscure and out-of-print titles that'll most likely never see the light of day on Blu, and even if they do, I might be an old man by that point, and not really even care what format I'm watching the movie on.
+1

I still have some movies on VHS only (some bootleg, some legit) that I am still waiting for a DVD release, much less a Blu-Ray release!

The only reason I would buy a DVD is if it was a television show or film that I know will probably never be put on Blu-ray.
