Great film. Will have to see how good they can make it look first though, before deciding whether or not to buy.

As much as I like the breakfast club, and will definitely buy it, how did it beat out the BTTF trilogy?

Awesome - love this film!

It was out before I was born but when I caught it on TV for the first time a few years ago everything about it (apart from maybe the clothing) is as relevant now as it was then.

Because most people know that the BTTF trilogy is already scheduled to come out on blu-ray later this year. Now they need to release Weird Science, Sixteen Candles, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Animal House, Scarface, and the original American Pie Trilogy on blu-ray and I will be a happy camper.

Not me. Considering Universal's poor record with releasing catalogue movies on BD, I'll wait to read reviews and will probably end up keeping my HD-DVD.

That's what I thought too, but why would they put it in the poll if that were the case?

Good question, I don't understand why they included it in the poll either if its coming out anyways.

They'd have to try to screw this one up. The HD-DVD didn't even look that great to begin with.

Is there any reason to think this won't simply be a port of the HD-DVD? How was the PQ on that version?

Love the movie, but have little confidence in Universal bluray.

i have the HD-DVD of this one, and many other titles that haven't been given the blu ray treatment yet.

so far, movies like Poseidon, that have finally been given a blu release, seem to be ports of the HD DVDs...makes it hard for me to want to convert formats on these ones if they are pretty much just ports, at least until the price goes down on blu's even more in the next 2, 3 years

i really don't like having these HD DVDs on my shelf

I can think of two reasons:

1. By improving the PQ and AQ, and/or including more extras, they give those with the HD DVD version a reason to upgrade.

2. It being the 25th anniversary they may want to come out with something special.

Not saying it won't be a port, just saying those are two reasons to think it might not be.

I was just wondering when this was going to be released (it was playing on one of the movie channels recently); love this film and will definitely get this.

In regards to that 'poll' nonsense, I think it's rather obvious that all those titles are due to be released sometime soon, and Universal was doing nothing more than trying to get a basic idea of potential 'markets' for each. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a few of the titles in that poll, "Breakfast Club" included, already had an HD-DVD release (as did 'Lebowski'). Given Universal's track record thus far in re-releasing it's previous HD-DVD releases on Blu, I'm personally going to be very careful before purchasing those particular films. It's their catalogue titles that haven't already been previously released on HD-DVD that will stand the best chance for success, at least in terms of overall 'quality,' in my opinion.

Yeah, I too think the poll was something more along the lines of 'here's stuff we're working on, what do you want NEXT?'. And the poll was what, a month ago? And the movie is coming in August? Even for a port, that's a pretty fast turn around time. They must have been already working on it.
