I use Netflix streaming on my PS3 all the time, mostly to catch up on TV shows like Heroes or Lost. All content looks good, especially HD stuff. the video quality really does depend on the download speeds you can maintain. Before switching to Comcast, I had Qwest high speed DSL, and the picture quality, using the ethernet cable, was horrible.

I would suggest hooking your PS3 via the ethernet cable. You'll achieve higher download speeds, and that will improve your video quality.

I'm considering switching to Ethernet for my PS3, because wireless is all over the map and that was my biggest gripe in the first place. The 360 has ethernet and is smooth sailing, I did once try a linksys wireless gaming adaptor for the 360-an absolute nightmare-over 4 hours of technical support and still had an inconsistent connection.

Does the disc from netflix for ps3 let you watch any movies in hd? Just wanted to know before i ask for a disc.

I use Netflix on my 360 and with the wireless adapter. It works great and I get HD quality even two floors above where my wireless router is located. I also watch Netflix movies on my computers a lot and it is great that you can watch a good selection of movies instantly. I occasionally rent HD movies from the Zune network and I like how you can choose to download the movie ahead of time so there are no issues with streaming and the quality is good. I rent some HD movies through Time Warner and never had an issue with them either.
