Exactly the reason why I joined this forum.
I am sick and tired of the mods allowing HD-DVD trolls to flourish over there.

for what it's worth, I'm thinking this upcoming announcement has to do with certain titles as opposed to studios, specifically some key ones by Spielberg and Lucas. I have a source at Lucas Digital who might know something, I'll ask.
Danno,

First welcome to the forum. I agree that AVS is overrun by asshat HD DVD supporters but Josh is his own worst enemy. This is not the first time he has done this. To say what he did and then turn around a few hours later and downplay it like it's no big deal.... he deserves what he gets. I like Josh and I'm appreciative when he posts his information here and his fervent support of BD but he has shot his own credibility. Not the clowns on the other side.

I hope Josh will post on here later explaining what he meant.

Thanks for all the hard work in the last 24 hours, it's been crazy!
I thought I heard they showed off "Grindhouse" with a blu ray cover. I will try to find the link.

Cool thanks for the link. Still though, it'd be a great marketing boost if Weinstein came out and actually announced something. I'm hoping this is what Beatboy was getting at. Anybody?

Not to pile on Josh, but I hope he is right or all hell is going to break loose on AVS as they already seem to like to pile on him unmercifily

josh, or beatboy, will lose all crediblity whatsoever and will never be allowed to post here or avs again if he is lying about this. i don't think he is that stupid. he has a decent track record and i think there is no reason to think that what he says isn't true and that the BDA isn't going to know HD DVD off tommorw. remember its MS, Tosh, Universal, and Paramount against Sony, Panasoinic, TDK, Phillips, Samsung, Disney, Fox, Starz, Sharp, Dell, Apple, Denon, LG, i mean the list goes on for about 185 corporations.

It was 'exclusively' his to watch meaning he could only watch it on the player he has. He saved $199 so that means he didn't have to buy an HDDVD player at the supposed Xmas price of $199 (or... this could be an ubscure reference to wally world and his player costing $199 but doesn't totally fit). As per the 20 friends... how many companies are on the board of the BDA?

Could it be a hint at Warner being Blu-ray exclusive? Could this by why the VP left (although, he wasn't as pro HDDVD as many and did strongly lobby for a neutral stance during his tenure... even if he favored HDDVD with releases). Would be an odd thing for someone to leave over, but I guess I could see it happening. His message upon leaving sounded pretty stock as in 'I'm not going to say anything bad because I still want to work in Hollywood.' But, it didn't sound like he was happy, that's for sure.

North America loves drama!
Good figuring out. I like this view. I'm getting excited again!!!

Lets just hope so...

But people are saying that Warner makes a profit on every HD DVD sold, including Uni, Para, and Weinstein. If that's true, it wouldn't make sense for them to go exclusive.

It may make sense if they were compensated, and they know Blu Ray sells more!!!

That's a good one, but one question: why did he have to pick National Lampoon's Vacation instead of any other Warner movie if he just wanted to hint at the studio? I thought it had to be that movie because of the Walley World reference.

Or maybe he was just trying to distract people slightly off from the real message. This is fun.

Now, paidgeek's "sharpening the swords" is a very interesting one and much harder to decrypt. My guess is that they are readying for a big announcement (analogous to a samurai war cry at the beginning of a big battle) early next week but what that is, I have no idea. Maybe all the Japanese BD player manufacturers are going to announce price cuts in unison.

enjoy

It would if they were making more profit from each BD sold. Not only bribed, but given 'stock options' if you will.

There is always a way. It's just very unfortunate that the HDDVD Promotions group had to 'go there' on this one. It really lowers the bar on this whole thing and puts both camps in a very dangerous and uncertain cycle of spending that inevitably could destroy them both. That's what happened to satellite radio and now they are begging the FCC to let them get married to solve the problem.

Actually...

'Sharpening the swords' would clearly be a reference to New Line Cinema as they handled LOTR in which 'sharpening swords' was common place before large battles. Could this be happening over the weekend too? New Line coming on board with Blu-ray?

Um, I'm still going on the "Beatboy so narcissistically attention-starved on his own little micro-stage that he'll make it up if he has to, so long as he can write Big Long Posts about what he's 'going' to say first?" theory?
