That is exactly the way it is at the Wal-Mart that I have been to, they had quite a few titles, I got Final Fantasy. But, if you weren't looking really carefully, you wouldn't see them, I walked past them twice! They have nothing up to distinguish them from the other DVDs and HD DVDs. They might be there just look harder or ask. Also, I have noticed the Target that I go to have some of their Blu-ray and HD DVDs spread arond the video dept. They will put a few BDs and HD DVDs next to the DVD of the same title.

Good Lord Man!!! If I have to explain my position on this or provide facts on the matter, you have been spending too much time on this website!! I did say
it was just "my opinion", but I think you got the "ignorant" part right. Look up
"shady/walmart/unethical" on google if you want answers on the subject.

read a few bits and blurbs. welcome to an imperfect world where capitalism reigns. i think its great that you obey your convictions. and i encourage you to stick by them. im just coming from a different point of view where i don't see any difference between them and every other major corporation? personally (and i can only speak for myself) if i boycotted every company i thought was shady, everything i own would have been built or made by myself. i would grow my own food and dig my own well. i would be wearing potato sacks for clothes. i can keep going. and i dont want to go any further here as this is not a political forum. but i for one will be buying my next bd's at walmart to encourage them to choose bd over hd-dvd.

The critical issue is profitability. Wal-mart isn't in it for Toshiba and Microsoft, they are in it for Wal-mart. Can anyone make a $199 player profitably?
The answer is no. Seriously. The raw cost of parts is somewhere in that range. 2 years from now? Yeah

Whoever is selling players at $200 is losing money intentionally to gain share or the extra $$ is coming from somewhere. We know Toshiba is doing it, and if I were the BDA I'd be planning 4-5 "Blu days" between thanksgiving and Xmas to sell these things and toss in a bunch of in-store free movie packs to boot

Anyone who shops at Wal-mart is, obviously, oblivious to their business
practices. There are plenty of places to buy "Blu" w/o hurting the rise of
the format. Just an opinion (and you know what those are like ; / )

So, I guess, to each his/her own!
How are we oblivious to their business practices? The bottom line is a cheap player and the cheapest blu ray media. Their business pratices are no different from circuit city's or target's. They all get paid min wage, just think if they all made 12.00 and hour, there would be no 200.00 player anywhere.

I know Wal-Mart has done some shady stuff in the past, but name one fortune 500 company that hasn't. I still shop there and on my most recent trip I had to stop and check out the electronics department even though I was trying to avoid it. What caught my eye was the end cap that housed the PS3 demo. It was LOADED with Blu-Ray titles! I went to check the new release aisle where before there had always had only a couple of both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles and there was nothing. Instead now there were about 20 or so different titles all well stocked locked in with the PS3. All the PS3 games had been moved around the corner where they had once only held one row in the PS2 section, the PS3 titles now had their own section and everything else had been pushed back, moving XBOX all the way to the back wall. I inquired about any HD-DVD products to the electronics manager and she stated that they currently don't have any in stock but that I could use the "site-to-store" feature on their website. I don't know if it is still true but when I used to work at Wal-Mart (as a night receiving specialist (I unloaded the trucks when they came in)) the store manager has some say in what the store does and does-not carry based on local demand. Apparently my store has gone BLU.

Since I work at a Wal-Mart I should convince the assitant manager over Electronics to let me build a Blu Ray display. We carry a 47" Polaroid LCD tv that is 1080p. I haven't seen any Sony BR players yet, but once I do believe me I will do what I can to make this happen! The store manager is pretty cool so I may be able to do this. With a lot of really good releases this will be a way to ramp up BR sales.

Definitely man. I think the biggest problem with electronics stores is they are not displaying blu-ray players and HDTVs properly. So many times I just see an HDTV running a standard definition signal whether that be standard cable or standard dvd. And usually when I see a blu-ray player, it's not hooked up to anything, it's just sitting there. They need to put a blu-ray player next to a 1080p tv, hook them up, play a really good picture quality blu-ray, and advertise it with signs so anyone can clearly tell what is going on.

Do you have a PS3 that can be used as a demo? Just hook that up to the 1080P lcd via hdmi.

Question

It's kind of strange how the Canadian Walmart's all stock many Blu Ray and HD DVD's and the U.S. Walmart's stock very few or none at all. I agree with buying Blu Ray titles at Walmart for the reason of getting them to support our format. You may not like them, but they may be our best friend, to screw Microsoft. I guess the old saying; Is the enemy of my enemy my friend, or is he my enemy? Here, he may be our friend.

Well, the Wal-Mart near my house doesn't carry any blu-ray films .. None ... not a one. Because of this, I seriously doubt that they'll carry any Blu-Ray players.

Even their PS3 games section is minimal, at best.

I don't give two hoots for Wal-Mart.

First off, I buy lots of crap from wal-mart and Wal-mart.com. Secondly I will be first to admit wal-mart has gotten their feet dirty more than once, that is the nature of the beast. Even Sony, who I love to death, has done some shady stuff. Wal-Mart will always be here, so instead of being against them, help make them be better. Finally they are still going to honor my Blades of Glory preorder?!? Is that true? I did notice I have not got any notice from them saying they are canceling it.

don't be surprised if you don't get it. it would be paramounts fault, not wal-marts. i believe they pulled 'em.

well, what i heard was that the chinese may drop the support for advanced audio codecs to keep the costs down, so that means players with no TruHD etc. possibly could drop over features as well (possibly like LG doing no HDi). Which if happened would be massive egg on face for HD-DVD after they have spent so much time mug slinging about complete specs.

Now trying to make the chinese do what you want has never been easy, more so when they are protecting there bottom line. Walmart being a bulk importer could leverage its influence to make sure they were full spec players, but poor mr Zohn has ZERO control on what he would be able to influence as he dosent have the buying power.

you have to admit, chinese players that didnt fully support the HD-DVD spec would be so ironic it would be side splitting funny

Hopefully Wal-mart will play a decisive role in securing a Blu-ray victory. One of the most irrationally hated electronics firms getting support from the most irrationally hated corporation on the face of the planet and putting the final nail in the hd dvd coffin.

Sounds pefect to me. The only way it could be better is if Haliburton starts pressing BDs.

doubt wal-mart will do so since they like to stock HDDVDS with the ps3 display. and also customer service sucks.
