the PS3 and the 360 will not catch the Wii. The Wii is going to be what the PS2 was, the best selling system. The numbers do not lie. Nintendo will be the winner of this race for sure. If all they make are those games how is the DS still crushing the competition?

I thought Nintendo was first place outright as of now by a few million units or something.

I've always been a PC guy, then I saw a Mac Book Pro in action running parallels, it was running Tiger and a installation of Windows faster than a PC running just Windows, so lately I just find myself loathing the PC more and more....I really want a Mac Book Pro....if they get a blu-ray drive, I will not be able to hold back any longer. This coming from a .NET/Java Software Engineer

Don't think to highly of Sony or of the PS3? Pretty sure the PS2 still has the highest unit volume of any console, by a long way.

Pick your poison, units or $$, and we'll continue the discussion. Your point is a weak one until you clarify. Is the Wii really next-gen, or is it just a new last-gen console... price is a lot closer to last-gen.

If Nintendo actually meets demand this holiday season you can probobly bet that another 5 million units will sell! so far they havent met demand and that has caused them a slow down in sales, it crazy that almost a year in release and you still have to pre-order it! it is amazing! by the way MP: Corruption is amazing!

They already have come to that realization, which explains why YOY sales are failing.

No, I haven't forgotten about Metal Gear or Final Fantasy, and I do fully recognize the effect that these titles, especially Final Fantasy, will have on console sales. In fact, the release of FFX so many years ago was the determinant in when I would purchase a PS2. The big time, high profile PS3 games are coming out next year, while 360 just released one of their high profile titles, Bioshock, are preparing to release an extremely high profile title, Halo 3, and still have Ace Combat and Mass Effect before year end. Point is, Xbox is about to receive a pretty major boost, at a time when PS3 is still kind of lacking in high profile, high quality exclusives. It is looking like in terms of games, 2008 is the year of PS3, while 2007 has clearly been the year of 360, while Wii is still just sort of doing its own thing.

The Wii isn't really in the same category as 360 & PS3 since it is non-HD... and check the price. Wii is really more a competitor of PS2, which by the way still sells more than any other console. As PS3 prices drop over the next few years, PS2 owners are most likely to upgrade to PS3s, not Wii, due to brand loyality and backward compatability. Also the HD consoles, especially the BD-ready PS3, offer functionality that will become more important over time but is not yet critical to the average consumer.

Your notion that they are "crushing the competition" is just stupid hype. Sony is still pushing more units and more revenue than anyone else in non-portables, and that goes for software as well. Nintendo however is truly crushing everyone in portables.

You clearly did not read the attached article that started this thread. 360 share is falling and sales are dropping from prior year figures. M$ is reporting mammoth losses on 360 hardware in one of the more embarrassing corporate stoires this side of Enron in recent memory. Clearly it has not "been their year".

It doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist to see that the 360 is garbage, in terms of hardware quality, lagging far behind the PS3, which is a fine piece of hardware. But for the PS3, where's the games?

Fair enough, but most of your statement, and this entire thread, speak about games, and other factors, in the context of their impact on console sales. If I was supposed to separate that last sentence from everything else you said, then my apologies.

Don't forget the "RING OF DEATH" with the 360's. It was announced on-line and in the papers that Microsoft will be paying 1 billion, yes, 1 billion in repair and replacement costs in the coming year.

Actually recent estimates have the figure closer to $1.5B.

I'm helping them out there, as my 360 red ringed last weekend. The hardware is just poorly designed. The test will be to see if they learned from their mistakes, hopefully they will make the necessary changes before they start worrying about their next next-gen console.

Well, I'm not really helping them as much as helping boost their repair cost totals.

We can return to this conversation in fourth months, to see how Halo 3, Ace Combat, and Mass Effect affected console sales then. Either way works for me.

Personally I think your dreaming if you believe that. No offense - just my observations watching them over the last decade. They have consistently gone in the opposite direction. Any other company would have been out of business by now. Their monopoly based cash flow has prevented that. Only reason. It's a "good" one but it's the only one.

1. The design/concept of the 360 was weak to start. An incremental improvement over my Xbox. Not a good indicator they are learning from their mistakes or improving and pushing their envelope. Mediocrity is a goal now..unlike the original Xbox.

2. Rushing it to market to win at any cost against Sony is the other bad signpost for me. Been their guinea pigs in the pc market with shoddy products rushed and dumped on the market for years now. So they aren't learning IMO.

3. Windows 95 is 12 years old now and Vista is worse 12 years later..which is probably the worst signpost of all. Very little has been added that wasn't possible with 95 over the years. Win 95 was the last great product they produced. 12 years ago.
