Wow, that is quite a jump from "50 lakhs" to "100 - 150 crores". lol
In any case, please don't treat information provided on that site as the 'be all end all', specially not for music sales information. First of all, music sales until very recently has always been very difficult, if not altogether impossible to determine accurately. There is actually very little data regarding music sales from prior to this decade.

By the way, if you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you not address me as 'dude'. Thanks.

'Dude'..lol..I get mixed with the zeros in crores and lakhs..I'll give u the link when the site brings back the music section...but u cant deny that the music was a chartbuster, irrespective of how copied it was...This also goes for Pritam's music who plagiarizes very much..

I'm surprised Ashiqui is just RANDOMLY out now. I'm happy though. The music was definitely the best thing from that time. Anuradha and Kumar are icons because of it. The movie itself was weird, but I (and I know this is shallow) found both the lead actor and actress HOT at the time. Looking back on it, I still do.

Anyway, it's hard to judge the quality based on just the screens, but I suppose it's alright given the age. I definitely want to buy it just for the sake of it.

IMO (and in the opinion of the masses) Aashiqui is definately the best soundtrack ever produced by Bollywood....Which is y its the no.1 best selling track of all time....by far.

Nadeem-Shravan were great composers for the masses and produced many great evergreen albums that are still remembered 2day. They would probably still have been at the top if it were not for the Gulashan Kumar murder case.

N-S may have been inspired by a few tracks here n there....but that doesnt mean their music WASN'T quality....They are definately one of the best and most popular composer duos bollywood has ever produced.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, greatness in bollywood has always been measured in terms of box-office success and sales. There is one slight problem with your statement though, how come no one today even remembers the soundtrack of Aashiqui? How many times is the music requested and or played on the radio? The reson for Ashiqui's success back in it's time was primarily the lack of quality music at the time and even more importantly the control of Gulshan Kumar/T-Series on the music distribution in India. If you read up a little on the history of the Indian music industry a lot would become clear as to how T-Series operated back then, totally in cahoots with the mafia.

Actually, not much of their music, or should I say their stolen music is remembered today. Also, considering that almost every single song of Ashiqui was copied/lifted from other sources, how does that make them great composers? I suppose copying/stealing is now the standard by which we measure greatness. Gulshan Kumar was a thief and so are his proteges Nadeem Shravan. It's ironical, but in a way fitting, that the protege ended up killing the mentor.

No one remembers it? I certainly do... I have no idea what's wrong with the masses if they're not requesting it on radios, but I never thought the music was a success just because of the numbers--I really thought people loved it. My family was so into it at the time and no one in my family is from India or knows the language. The fact that it made such an impression on us is what made me think it was just that good.

Guys yesterday saw the Bluray of aashique. It gave me an headache. It is the lousiest transfer I have ever seen in the history of blu ray. and was so bloody disappointed. Not good PQ ,the images were not even straight and were a bit slanting. The sound was atrocious !! as though been transfer from a VHS. Even VHS sound is a lot better. I loved the songs of the movie but viewing them on blu ray was a torture !! I have really been busy hence do not have time to upload shots etc..I must say totally avoid and forget about this movie. It's absolutely a waste of time even debating and a complete rip off, on what T series has done to this one

I'm intrigued to know more, please do tell.

I was a baby back when all of this took place. My faintest memory recollects the big news that was Gulshan Kumar's death while he prayed.

Wikipedia has some good articles on it if you look up Gulshan Kumar and Nadeem-Shravan.

i have heard from my dad that in gulshan kumar's early years he used to make pirated audio cassettes and sold them at much cheaper prices and slowly he rised and rised to become te owner of india's biggest music company Trishul-SERIES(T-Series) but the man was respected in his later years for his honesty and was known to be a great worshipper of maa vaishno devi (my recent trip at vaishno devi about 4-5 days ago there there were many t series shops with aarties from gulshan kumar) but gulshan kumar wanted to revolutionise the music industry by selling the audio cassettes and cds at much lower prices as were then.......but his brothers didnt followed his legacy after his death.........thats all he told me about him....!!

Respected? I suppose money and power is all you need to be respected in our country, irrespective of how that money/power has been attained. Only in India can a conman, theif, tax evader, extortionist & murderer, be referred to as 'honest'. The fact is, Gulshan Kumar was a two bit thief who broke the law, time & time again and even after T-Series became a big company, he continued to be the biggest pirater of audio in the world. In fact, to avoid paying excise duty and royalty to producers, he would even pirate titles he owned the rights too. This was the reason why bollywood stopped doing business with T-Series. That is when Gulshan Kumar used the loophole in the copyright laws to re-record movie soundtracks using his own 'enslaved' artists. He also used the mumbai mafia to force bollywood producers to give him the rights. This is also when T-Series started producing their own movies only with the objective of selling the music.

If you are a Pepsi or Coke, you sponsor rock shows and if you are a Gulshan Kumar trying to peddle religious music, what do you do? Simply, you sponsor religious events. It's called marketing anf actually has nothing to do with being a "great worshipper". In any case, 'jitna bada paapi, utna jaada dharm ka dhong'.
