even if the players go down in price before christmas affording the 1080p lcd plasma hdtv thats a different story because they will still be expensive plus got to buy movies and if you get the playstation 3 buy playstation 3 games to go with it so really the players going down in price is just to make customers feel good and buy it but there is so much other stuff to buy besides the player itself

They've been cheaper all along and still getting it handed to them. Blu-ray prices will end up dropping in proportion to hd-dvd prices if not closing the gap.

exactly...and i live in GROVEPORT ,OHIO well Last night i was at Walmart in Canalwinchester..they have 46" LCD 720p Funai TV's for under $600.00 but the thing that was Quite telling a 1080p 36" FOR for about $1200.00. the big thing is the prices are dropping on HD LCD TV's rather QUICKLY. the fact that you can get 720p HD LCD TV's at less than $600.00 and is a Emerson ie: "Funai" is pretty good. the consumer like J6p will be buying HDTV's but in 720p right now for the next year to 2 years. but thats what the Companies like SONY and OTHER BDA group is counting on. EVEN at 720p the quality looks great with BLU-RAY AND HD DVD. but the content is where it matters and

that is where THE BDA has the advantage...Disney...that will be in my OPINION the DEATH KNELL OF HD DVD. with the BDA spending AD $$ on Content. this race is not going to win over night . unless HD DVD backers throw in the towel. but they know without Disney HD DVD will not win.

their ONLY HOPE is to get Disney to release their films on HD DVD. and that means by FUD in the MEDIA, sweetners' what ever it takes. but if the HD DVD backers cannot get Disney they will never WIN and they know it.which is why the more this goes on the lower the COST that BLU-RAY PLAYER PRICES will get. THE POINT is if HD DVD cannot get Disney on board to support HD DVD before the BLU-RAY price is even steven with HD DVD than they cannot win. and with the recent announcement of BLU-RAY (Daewoo), Funai (trial player),
it looks like the PRICE gap is now smaller its too late HD DVD has failed to SWAY Disney to jump. the FALL SEASON is the problem for HD DVD .

Sony and Samsung have done a very smart thing they have put low cost 720p HD SETS into Target and Walmart. which also means HD movie players this fall are going to be BLU-RAY players in the majority in the brick and mortar store's between the CE companies that make BLU-RAY look at the main CE companies backing BLU-RAY and which one's put out what type of electronics into Walmart and Target. thats right BLU-RAY will have more blu-ray players into the stores. while HD DVD will try for more sales for online

thats going to be a race that will be fun to see. which will sell more HARDWARE HD DVD or Blu-ray.

Movies matter the most right now. $20-30 disks must move for a format to win! This is a format war, not a players war. Some people with dvds have like 10 in their collection over 7 years! Sony is not dumb, the price will be right when it needs to be right. This war will go to the 2008 christmas. By then consumers will truly be ably to decide, with $150-250 players, and $14-20 movies. And Blu ray will have most of the top blockbusters plus the number one selling dvd of all time (28 million) Finding Nemo!. I mean Superbad (sony) has been number one for two weeks AT THE BOX OFFICE. We have another one BLU. Go blu!

When buying something customers want a choice rather then being forced to go with one company. BD has Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer and other companies pushing out blu players. on the other side its Toshiba, Toshiba and did I forget Toshiba, sure a cheaper player is nice, but what about movies, it ain't gonna do you much good if your movie selection is not there. That is where blu-triumphs. Nice selection of players which drives cost down as in terms of healthy compettition, plus a massive selection of movies to boot. so were doin fine

People are always looking for cheap stuff, and are blinded for anything else...

It´s kind of ironic,

Betamax hadn´t enough "space"

and Blu-ray got more than anyone else, and it still don´t fit

People will walk into stores and see which movies they want, see most of them on BD, and as always...content will win format wars, not cheap POS hardware that doesn't have much content backing it up.

It's about all of these things: title selection, player cost, etc.

Player cost alone won't win the format war for HD-DVD. Anyone on the HD-DVD side who thinks so is fooling themselves.

But title selection, which BD has, won't win it alone either.

It's possible. I work in electronics retail and the cheapest of products are what sell the fastest. Every sunday there's a line of people waiting outside to get the crap $400 Celeron laptop that goes on sale.

Minority Report ( Minority Report could wind up being the most screwed up release on HD assuming that it get released before this war ends. Get this Minority report is released through Fox (BD exclusive right, hold on it has another studio attached to it Dreamworks which is HD DVD exclusive. So is it going to get released on both formats or just Blu Ray. Even if it is claimed by Dreamworks it will get release on Blu Ray. Thank You Mr. Spielberg.

Listen up! The sale numbers of BD (Hardware/Software) speak for themselves. HdDud can be lowered to the ground, that won't change BD momentum in anyway. Can't wait for September 18 to arrive
