Default How HD-DVD Could Win the Format War — I call bollocks on this one.

This article is accompanied by a nice image of Rocky and Apollo Creed. Rocky has the HD-DVD logo on his chest, while Apollo Creed has the Blu-ray logo on his back.

This article, I believe, is very pro-HD-DVD, even though Matt Whitlock says it is non-biased. Funny thing is Apollo Creed kicked Rocky's ass. No?

How about we tell Matt Whitlock "How Blu-ray has Already Won the Format War".

I would copy and paste, but it's a bit long.

Sounds biased to me too.
Kind of strange that he tries to give advice on how to beat Blu in 5 points.
In the end he will be disappointed but will just say that he does not care who wins the war, LOL

Very biased, even though he says he doesn't care, but wants HD DVD to win so everyone can get on enjoying HD movies? Apparently he doesn't realize it would take less for BD to win.

And yes, the old HD DVD supporting studios should be REQUIRED to release their movies ONLY non HD DVD Combo discs and no standard DVD release. That is not going to happen. How pissed off do you think the rest of the country is going to be if they have to get an HD DVD added on to their DVD at an additional cost. How much money do you think the studios will lose with that one? I am sure Toshiba has already tried that approach to the studios.

No, Rocky almost knocked Apollo out in the opening rounds of the first movie and only lost by a split decision. Then Apollo lost in the rematch.

I hope the writer gets his wish on 1 point: All HDDVDs being combo discs.

Then all HDDVD would by default be $5 more expensive than blus, and then everyone would see the joy of dealing with those fault-prone combos.

The idea of selling "combo discs for the price of dvd versions" is completely undesireable for the studios. Instead of getting extra revenue for the premium content of high definition, they get the same amount of money but added manufacturing costs! yeah, thats going to make Warner wanna go red-exclusive!

He forgets that Warner doesnt really care who wins, aslong as they can make lots of money making movies. Even universal doesnt seem ready or willing to ever follow that plan.

That was a truly dumb article! Why should companies sacrifice profits for a dying format.

So many things wrong with that article, I won't even try but I will comment on point number 5 about using computers and that Vista is HD-DVD friendly. I guess MS took so much time making it HD-DVD friendly they forgot to make it PC friendly. http://www.cnet.com/8301-13506_1-9785337-17.html

This article was complete stupidity...

One has to look no further then point number 2.

Basically he says that studios should lower the prices of the combo disks to equal that of their standard DVD counterpart in order to get more people to buy them and ensure that HD-DVD wins the war....

The only problem is that no studio has instrumental development in HD-DVD enough to see future profit from its success....

Is he really suggesting that studios who merely produce their product on the media drop their prices and take financial losses so Toshiba can retain royalities of next generation HDM??

That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!

The only way this could happen is if Toshiba further subsidized the studios production cost, but how long can Toshiba stay afloat with both selling cheap players and paying for half of all the content on its HDM...

They wouldn't be making money on the Razor or the Blades....

Ridiculous....

This is a horrible article, obviously by somewhat not extremely knowledgable about what is going on.

Going off the points in this article:

Point#1 - Sorry HD-DVD Combos suck, they have a high coaster rate, and you suggest making them be required?
Point#2 - Toshiba has already artifically destroyed their price structure and the value of their products, who would want them anyways?
Point#3 - How the hell can they get prices any lower? They are already giving them away for god sakes!
Point#4 - He wants to make it easy for people to port movies around, but avoid piracy? Hmmm, kinda tough there.
Point#5 - Well, I think this is a moot point, Blu-ray burners and other PC related devices are way ahead when it comes to the PC market.
