Like that one guy from the blog, his only justification was: the DVD forum supports HD DVD. But what's the BDA then? lol, the DVD forum doesn't have anything to say with these HD formats. If the DVD forum did have some influence and they did do some research, they should've known that AOD (some people on the board who follow the war for quite a while now) is the same as HD DVD but with another name (ofcourse in meantime they did change the format, like adding a 3rd layer that probably won't get into the mass-production process)... So now you see how much technical details and industry support means to the DVD forum. *-*
By the way; I still think the representatives were bribed that day....
Well said JTK and nyg. I just wanted to add to what Thunderhawk stated here. Am I the only one who gets irritated when I see articles claiming HD DVD is supported by over 230 electronic companies from the DVD Forum? This statement is so false, it just boggles my mind. Little do these pro-HD DVD articles tell you is that a huge chunk of these 230 companies basically abandoned the forum and joined the BDA.

Just more spin, propoganda, distortion, and misdirection. That's all the HD-DVD camp has going for them since the mountain of facts are SO to their disadvantage...and they know it.

I'd love to see them list and name those "230 companies" and back that all up with concrete sources.

Here's a hint: You'll never see any of it. It's just yet another lie on an ever growing mountain of lies and straw men.

Well, when you recieve about 10 units per store, and have 3-5 films available, it isn't that hard to sell out.

I could release an electronic device and give three of them to one store, and then, when someone buys them, I can say that the device sold well.

Did a huge chunk of these 238 companies really abandon the DVD Forum? Or are they in both?

I went to Best Buy last night and the HD-DVD section, if you call it that, was pathetic.

All I found was a stack of HD-DVD movies on what looked like a discounted display model of a tv stand. Pretty sad.

Exactly what thunderhawk said; however, a large majority of them that are in both have stated they will be Blu-ray exclusive.

This is false. You'd have to be a member of the BDA or DVD Forum to have any inkling about who's doing what and even then you'd have no solid plans.

Companies will always straddle the fence so that they have access to insider information for both sides. This is par for the course.

Very few companies will grant an exclusive to a platform. Even Disney's CEO hedged on offering BD exclusivity by stating that they thought they'd eventually make HD-DVDs.

This really isn't about selling superior hardware or how many studios you have it's about licensing and the aformentioned characteristics help but in the end companies are looking to make a profit.

I'm not the least bit worried about owning both platforms. I frankly don't care how many CE companies support a particular platform unless I feel like my needs aren't being addressed.

This is Blu Ray's battle to lose. They have had the momentum for some time and all they have to do is maintain studio support advantages and make sure they have price parity in hardware/software and they should win.

However HD-DVD isn't flashy but it's formidable in the fact that a co-ordinated launch and delivery of systems was successfully complete a couple of weeks ago and most buyers are happy.

It'll be interesting to contrast Blu Ray's initial launch.

Compare with BD's beautiful marketing campaign as featured in another thread.

I saw a fairly big stand at Fry's Electronics with a big blurb about the player.

That said, I found the one (yes one!) disc sitting on a table. It was Million Dollar Baby.

Oddly, while looking in the PSP movie section I found a second one - Serenity - next to the Serenity PSP discs. Weird.

But certainly no stand of any kind or even a reasonable location for the software...

FYI, Million Dollar Baby was $19.99 and Serenity was $27.99.

Man I'll tell you the brick and mortar stores have really dropped off. If Sony is to market their BR product right they're going to have to expend much energy to overcome the basic laziness of big chains.
