Oh man, I do love me some Dances With Wolves. I personally love the extended cut with John Dunbar shooting first.

agreed on all counts. my personal taste is for the theatrical cut. much better movie than the bloated extended cut

I'm totally with you Mithrandir. I had 2 copies of this on VHS(the original and my dubbed tape of the t.v. broadcast of the extended version). I can hardly wait for the B.D.

SWEET!!!! Had a stressful day, was about ready to go to bed, and then I read that Dances With Wolves is going to be out on Blu-ray in January!!!!! Now I can sleep with a smile on my face! 4-hour directors cut too.....a late Christmas gift indeed!

I actually prefer the extended ...im def adding this one to the collection. Digi-book sounds even better.

I wonder what added material they will have to make this a worthy double-dip?
perhaps a De Niro & Pecsi audio commentary...............

There was a documentary the other night about natives' view of Native films, and one native comic summed it up perfectly, IMO:
"A guy with a mullet.....teaches the Lakota to fight??? "

(You can almost picture some Na'vi watching "Avatar" and saying "Oh, sure, the Earth guy gets the girl and becomes chief of the tribe, let's hand him over everything...")

It's mostly likely the SAME blu-ray with a DVD version of the film as well, and possibly a slipcover. Could be wrong though, but pretty sure that's what it will be.

Good thing this was announced or I would've bought the UK version. I was beginning to lose patience after all these years of waiting. I thought this was gonna be released in the year 2020.

Haha, yes, let's not send our money to US companies that license their movies and receive the profits from the sales abroad... I mean, foreigners.

I will be hugely disappointed if it is Extended Cut only.
I won't purchase it if it is the Extended Cut. I can't think of another Extended Cut that is such a downgrade from the original cut (Amadeus maybe is a distant second). The editor saved this movie, IMO. There were a lot of extra plot points that simply didn't need to be shown or explained. I didn't know about the UK version, so I'll pick that one up if this only has the extended cut.

Extended Cut all the way, so much better than the theatrical cut.

That is pretty funny, but didn't he just give them surplus rifles? Weren't they going off on a Pawnee raid before he even does that?

I thought the majority of Sioux and Lakota enjoyed the movie and thought Costner was pretty understanding of their history and culture...until the whole "The Dunbar" fiasco in the Black Hills.

Good news because I bought the Director's Cut as a import by the German Distributors Kinowelt which had 0 bytes audio info present within the sub-woofer low frequency channel of the DTS-HD MA English soundtrack, even though the box and disc menu are clearly marked as English DTS-HD MA 7.1 as an audio option.
Compared to the German DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio the English track sounded totally flat and underwhelming within scenes like the stampeding buffalo and the fantastic John Barry music score.

As a quick fix I ended up taking the LFE from the German track and remaking a new English DTS-HD MA 7.1 track as the LFE contains no dialogue.

I wasn’t the only one with this problem but there was no mention of this on the dvdbeaver.com BD review, funny enough I don’t blame Kinowelt as much as you’d think, as it was released mainly for the German market and that German audio was fine, but as a consequence I’ll never trust any Blu-ray review from that half-assed site dvdbeaver ever again
