Foreward to Universal:
This isn't HD DUD Universal, Blu-ray owners expect a truly next-gen experience not a "good enough" experience.
How can you say that? Remember even if HD-DVD fails it still works as a up converted dvd player . That was the best thing that I heard come out of the conference last week. They have so much confidence over at the HD-DUD camp

No I'm not speaking out of both sides of my mouth, I'm not going to miss out on movies I want because they aren't going to be on Blu Ray any longer. I thought HD DVD was a dieing cause, who didn't? But I see that the tide has shifted, maybe not completely in favor of HD DVD but it has shifted enough to probably guarantee that both formats are going to be around a while.

And who can't be confused by this? The BDA claimed this war was over multiple times and now it seems almost endless. Tell me why the chairman of the BDA seems unsure about Blu Ray now? Why is that I will have to go out and buy another player to make use of things only attainable with future 1.1 profile players? My $700 Sony which is only 1.0 will not be fully compatible with future interactivity according to Paidgeek. WTF?

Get my drift, I'm ticked off that the BDA has put themselves in this position and that later I find out my $700 will not support interactive features of future titles. Clearly all is not great behind the scenes and I wish I was there to hear just 5 minutes of it.

Listen, don't sell out! P/DW sold out, they betrayed you and all other faithful BD supporters. have some pride. Remember, consumers will inevitably determine this war and switching sides will ensure that this war will never end. Blu-ray always declares itself to be the winner, and hd-dvd always declares that they'll survive to co-exist. Blu-ray will never die out mainly b/c it has the PS3, give it some time and the ps3 should hit about a Billion units sold, seems like a long ways away, but patience is the key.

Do people watch movies here? then i guess you can relate. You ever watch those movies (re competition of some sort, or sports) where a team has a member betray them and switched sides? Sure they lose the battle, but in the end who wins the war? exactly the team that was betrayed. Victory will be sweet.

There's no point in getting the HD-DVD version anyway, your blu-ray player can up-scale SDVD's to better P/A/Q than HD-DVD.

Back on topic: perhaps the most suggestive event that might indeed support such a move by Universal is the fact that Studio Canal is now neutral. In Europe the two are practically the same entity.

Blu Ray is not in the position it once was... Paramount really f*cked you guys and it's obvious. Insecure little girly men.

BYE.

I'm beginning to think you don't even own a blu-ray player. how could you lie to us like that? that hurts. (insert tear drop emoticon) listen, when the day comes and you actually own a Blu-ray player and you believe in the power of blue, our arms are open and will welcome you back into our family. i can't speak for others, but in that case you can just create a new user name. Come back when you've seen the light ... of Bluu-Raayy. Journey well my brother, blu is with you.

Default Universal eventually releasing on Blu

Hey folks
Here's my two cents on this. A lot of people in this war spew a lot of talk about how nasty the other format is and how crazy supporters of the other camp are. This does nothing but ruffle feathers and make this situation a true feud.

We all want this crap to come to an end and I think we're all in agreement that if NBC/Universal goes neutral, it will knock the wind right out of this war. Well folks, there's one tried and true way to make this a reality. Write pleasant and encouraging letters and emails to NBC/Universal asking them to go format neutral.

When writing you can't sound like a crazy person or someone who is pissed off. If you do, your letter instantly gets thrown in the nutcase file. You have to be pleasant, respectful, and earnest. Point out that if they go format Neutral, you'll gladly pruchase their offerings and you look forward to the day you can buy the likes of Jaws, ET, Blues Brothers, Battlestar Galactica, and your other favorite NBC/Universal titles. Tell them because of you're total satisfaction with Blu-Ray, your not buying (or not buying as many) DVD titles and because of no Uni titles on Blu, they are not enjoying your well-spent dollars.

I do agree with a lot of pundits that the HD title sales are miniscule compared to that of DVD today, so you have to strive to them how your spending your money now on Blu-Ray. Point out the fact that the adoption rate of all HD titles in 2007 have outpaced DVD in its first year and if 66% of that has been Blu-Ray, then Blu-Ray is on track to grow the same way as DVD did in 1997.

If you're using a Playstation3 as I am (along with a Samsung unit), make sure to point that out too to show the pundits that the claim "gamers" are not using their systems to watch Blu-Ray titles is wrong.

Postal letters are better than email, but do both if you can. The bean-counters do listen and if enough requests are made, they will be compelled to act as we want them to.

We all know the NBC/Universal is eventually going to release on Blu-Ray, we just need to place a nice carrot in front of their faces to speed things along. Letters do work magic and from my experience I've seen it work with products like bringing new cars to the US market to getting television shows back on the air. It can happen.

Cheers
Hal

i also want to add, that Universal's big bucks is in the Spielburg flicks and there is no way they will get permission unless they are on blu-ray, another incentive for Universal neutrality. I agree 100% it is obvious to me they are under contract and that contract is almost up hence the paramount deal and that by Q1 we will see a flood of Universal titles.
