i sent a message to universal. i dont like this idea and told them to take notes from disney if they really want to include a dvd for people to use. it seems to me (as i mentioned to them) that most people here dont like this idea and will actually make them think twice before buying a movie rather than make them want to buy which isnt good for business

the Blu-Ray Association board should put their foot down below certain standards..

I would be okay with this if the old HD DVD version wasn't so crappy.

I prefer having labels on my discs, though.

I stopped buying flipper discs on DVD, I certainly won't buy flipper blu-rays. Sorry Universal but you will lose me as a customer until you put an end to this.

I love having the DVD included separately like Monster's Inc, Up, etc. did.... because I can leave the disc downstairs for my son, and leave the Blu-ray and packaging safely stored in my media room (the 2 year old isn't too gentle with things)

This defeats the entire purpose of getting the DVD for me...... For other releases (like concerts) I would like a separate DVD to leave in a binder in my car, but I'm FAR FAR FAR from the point of leaving Blu-rays in my car (jeep has a soft-top, and I leave the doors unlocked..... I've lost too many DVDs as it is) A small binder fits in the locking console or locking glove-compartment (Typing that is funny..... how many people keep "Gloves" in there )

This is weird (swear to God)...

I went to my storage site this past weekend and used my workgloves. Rather than bring them in the house and forget to take them to work I stuck them in that compartment. First time I've ever done that.

I'm really sad that I won't be purchasing Universal Blu-rays anymore, especially since their vault has some of the all-time great films. The wealth of classic Hitchcock, The Sting, The Deer Hunter, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lost in Translation, To Kill a Mockingbird, (just to name a few) all will be absent from my BD library should Universal convert to double-sided discs. I have already written Universal and posted on as many boards as I can. I hope they are reading this, because I currently own more than 30 Universal BD titles. Sadly, my collection will cease to carry Universal titles should they commit to flippers.

Count me as one who will not purchase Universal blu rays if they only offer flipper discs. Like others have stated, I appreciate packaging in a seperate dvd that the kids can watch or be taken along in the car, but a flipper disc gives no benefit what so ever. I hope Universal is paying attention because the only thing I see this strategy accomplishing for them is less sales.

I'll be passing as well. I remember when HD DVD was alive the only combo discs sold were in the US as none were ever introduced overseas. If that trend continues with these BD flippers then my imports will increase as far as any Uni titles go.

Terrible concept; I like having disc art on my movies, and I wouldn't buy a flipper disc like this. I hated double-sided DVDs for the same reason, and only ever bought a few (ironically, most are part of the Universal Legacy Collection classic horror movies).

As others have said, they should do what Disney does and just throw in disc 1 of the equivalent DVD release. That's the only right way to do this, short of finding a way to squeeze DVD layers into the existing structure of a 50GB BD and somehow make the bloody thing readable to DVD players.

I never like the flipper disc and if a movie was release as such on BD then I won't be buying it.

This is exactly how I was with HD DVD and how it will continue for me on Blu-ray.
