I know the old D15b motor by Honda on the Ferios had a 3 stage VTEC that kicked in at 3k and hit peak at 7k. |

well i know in my accord for instance, the pick up felt wasn't even vtec engaging. it still had another 1k rpm's before it actually engaged. but its been awhile since i've payed real attention to honda's. so i'm sure its changed.
i know its definitely changed with the i-vtec tho, as you say |

I saw a slammed late 90's Oddysey over the weekend on 14's with camber'd wheels in the back. It looks amazing. |

Technically true. VTEC only changes the timing of the engine to allow more air into the engine increasing the psi. However the benefit of doing that at high rpm does equal more peak hp when it's engaged. It's a work around to no forced induction.

It's like those stupid Accord V6 articles in 2003, where idiots would say that you'd get a 5hp bonus if you used high-octane gasoline. Bullplop. All you would get is less efficiency by throwing off your timing. |

Unless I had the ECU reprogrammed to handle the higher octane and compensate by allowing higher compression I would never see any benfit from the more expensive gas. The reason why VTEC is great is because in every day driving you woould probably never use it and save TONS of gas by doing so. But in the event that you do need it that extra power is there and you can use it. |
