Your 805 can handle it. Hook your player to the reciever with HDMI (unless you lack HDMI on your TV), then HDMI from the reciever to your TV

In this comparison, the bass would obviously sound better because of the LFE/Sub track in DD vs. the 2 channel PCM.
Hi. Again, please pardon my ignorance on this stuff. You guys are light years ahead of me here. Is Toslink an optical connection? Does that deliver PCM? I have the Sony 300 Blu player and the new Onkyo 805 THX certified receiver with 3 HDMI connectors, optical connections. I'm not hooked up with optical just yet. Could that be my problem? Thanks, Mark

OK, yes I have HDMI connection on the TV. (New JVC 70")
So HDMI from BD player to receiver and HDMI from receiver to TV?
I'll check for sure but, this might be the problem. I don't beleive it is hooked up like that currently. Thanks WickyWoo.

Make sure to read your manual anyway for both your player and your reciever to make sure everything is hooked up and set properly

I have Gone In 60 seconds, the Uncompressed track isn't the best out there, but it's a lot better than the DD track. Sounds like you've got optical going to the receiver . . .

At the moment, I'm not hooked up with optical. just a gold cable connector input whatever its called. Is that my problem? Or should I use HDMI to the reciever instead of optical? Mark

You want:

Player ---HDMI---> Receiver ----HDMI----> TV

If I had to guess you're using a Digital Coax to your receiver, which will not do PCM. Is this "gold cable connector" similar to an RCA? If it's color coded, is it orange?

Edit: I may be wrong, now that I think of if, do any BD players use Digital Coax?

OK! I think you just solved it for me. Thank you very much!
One more retarded question, The HDMI connector from the reciever to the TV does what? Improved picture quality? Mark

Glad we could help. HDMI will give you the best picture quality and and it's a simple, singular connection.

Mark: glad you got it figured out. Let us know what you think of 5.1 PCM vs 5.1 DD.

Bstecke: Yup, the Panny DMP-BD10 has a coax S/PDIF out-- I use it for those BD's with only a DD or legacy DTS soundtrack, although I will try to avoid buying those in the future.

Oh Man am I excited! I'm hitting CC tomorrow for the HDMI cables. I will let all of you know! But it was with all of your help that I'm now headed in the right direction and I can't wait to see what this is like! Thank you again everyone! Mark

I would suggest ordering them from either Blue Jeans Cable (www.bluejeanscable.com) or Monoprice (www.monoprice.com) as Circuit City will overcharge you like CRAZY for the same quality cable. Not quite instant gratification, but I know Blue Jeans has very fast shipping. I've never dealt with Monoprice, but their reputation is good.
