I enjoyed Toy Story 3, Shutter Island, The Social Network, Inception, The Town, The American, and even Black Swan. (Red was alright, too.) I'm looking forward to seeing True Grit, The Fighter, and The King's Speech. So I think it was a better year than last year.

Every year, without fail, people whine about how much worse movies were this year than ever before. While I would certainly agree that there were fewer Hollywood movies that i'd rate above a 7/10, there were just as many 8+/10 as ever. Inception, Scott Pilgrim, True Grit, etc.

I also think there were as many or more great independent movies. Nevermind a plethora of great foreign movies.

A bad year for movies? Any year with Black Swan, Scott Pilgrim and Mother is a good year to me.

I am pretty sure that if the Internet was around in 1961, someone would have posted

"is it me or was 1960 the worst year in movie history?"

By the way, the best movie of 2010 was Toy Story 3

Must just be me, but I'm happy in any year in which we get new films from:

Fincher
Aronofsky
Scorsese
Nolan
The Coen Bros.
Edgar Wright
Danny Boyle
and many others

Could've used a little PT Anderson though.

The only film of 2010 I enjoyed was Toy Story 3. Honestly, Hollywood has been going downhill ever since the studio system broke up. Foreign markets aren't producing quality films at any sort of good pace.

But you're a movie fan! Movie fans should know that 99.99999% (a scientifically derived number) of all movies are utter crap.

I thought there was several very good films in 2010, but as a whole I would say it wasn't a great year, although I thought 2009 was worse. It's not surprising that 2009 and 2010 wouldn't be great because that is when the consequences of the writer's strike really became evident. In addition Hollywood has become too dependent on remakes, sequels, and superhero movies. Sometimes those films can be very good but too often the movies just don't work.

Christain Bale and Geoffery Rush were leagues better than Renner. Hell, so was Andrew Garfield and Matt Damon.

yeah, im not sayin 2010 was a total write-off, but it seems like in every movie, someone is wearing a cape ( i did like Kick-ass alot ) or they have fangs or what-not, and there is not a lot of originality anymore from Hollywood. its kind of sad when you think of it.

when an idea is hot in hollywood (superhero, vampires, etc.), they just seem to soak every last drop out of it and beat it until it's red in the face, and it ends up ruining the ideas for 20 years or so, and then they start fresh again.

i will agree, independant films are more of a joy for me, mostly because you don't have hollywood bigshot producers getting there fingers in on everything.

To me, every year is about the same. There's gonna be some good ones, average ones, and bad ones but I'm always hoping it'll get better. I would like a year when retailers would release more steelbooks.

I was just thinking some Avid Laserdisc fans could get many forgotten independent films from 1980's-90's which is much larger than the DVD selection, but that's packed with movies from the 2000's.

Anyone got a stash of 35mm prints of forgotten films from the 1960's?

Why we don't get those movies? It's still alot of us spend alot of time we on movies from this year.

I dunno, last summer sure FELT like 2003:
All the studio-hype "blockbuster" mistakes falling like bowling pins, and nobody having anything left to go see but the one Pixar hit which everyone went on a rampaging mania for praising as The Greatest Movie Ever Made...

Don't think that makes the December "Tron Legacy" analagous to "Return of the King", though (although Yogi Bear/Cat in the Hat seems to bear out the historical parallel).

I didn't have a problem with last year. Sure, some of the movies I really enjoyed would be considered crap by some, but there were plenty of movies I really enjoyed. Any year where there are movies like Toy Story 3, Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, How to Train Your Dragon, Inception, The Town, Easy A, Iron Man 2, among others can't be a bad year.
