My USA 2D version has a lovely metallic slip too, wasn't much in the price considering the pre-orders are £16 +/-, I say import, no BBFC ratings to spoil the slip. And for me the boxes are thinner so I can fit more on my shelp, lol

I really wanted to watch this in the cinema (I'm a big Disney fan), but I couldn't sway my mates to watch it! They didn't see anything in going to watch a 'princess' Disney film aimed at young girls!

However, I know that I'll enjoy it! I finally watched The Princess and the Frog today and I loved it! Also, it was great to see a traditionally animated Disney film (which I prefer)! Can't wait for the new Winnie the Pooh!

When I went there was an elderly couple there and I have a feeling I saw some one in their early 20s too, so it's anything but a girls film.

Coming out of the cinema I was really amazed at how great it was and it's now my favourite film ever, so caan't wait to see the Blu-ray.

Yeah, I mean I've been watching Disney films since I was a kid, and some of my favourites are 'girly' ones, such as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White etc... So I've got no problems whatsoever, it was just my mates who looked at me like

I can't wait for the Blu-ray either, I'm feeling to import the 4 disc US version!

They should leave the Computer Animation to Pixar IMO

Sorry if you already have, but if you see Tangled I think you'll reconsider that view.

I don't mind either way as long as story remains the most important factor. I hope Disney don't abandon their routes but make the decision on what's best for the story. I haven't seen Tangled yet but I don't think it could have been achieved without computer animation. Most 2D animation had some CGI in it now anyways.

got it, love it, still think Disney CGI is second rate.

I'm comparing the general look to The Princess and the Frog and much prefer the 2D look of TPATF and believe Tangled would have looked just a good, if not better in Disney 2D style.

why not?
I can only see an issue with drawing all that hair. Everything else could have been done in a good, 2D Disney animation style IMO

but your correct, the story is the most important which is why Tangled being CGI isnt really that much of an issue with me. I just think Disney 2D is miles better than the full out CGI.

as for 2D using CGI in some scene's, thats how it should be used. Computers should be used to improve or enhance things on any medium i.e music, movie, graphically. Else it kinda seem's like cheating to me. The talent is filtered away a LOT when pc's are too heavily relied on

I can't really give you specifics as I haven't seen the film (not too long for the BD release), but traditional cell animation and CGI are good at certain things. There are certain things you can't do in cell animation. Think about the ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast or the Aladdin carpet ride, you can't do that without CGI. CGI really gives filmmakers a 3D world to play with while cell animation is basically flat. I asume that Tangled has a lot of three dimensional animation when characters move around objects and POV shots. Tradition animation can't really do that as well or even at all.

While I love the classic Disney animation and I loved The Princess and the Frog it's the characters themselves that have let Disney down in their CGI films, with the earlier stuff audiences were expecting PIXAR level characters and Disney just didn't deliver like they did/should with their traditional characters.

They've really improved though and I think the Tangled characters have all the charm, wit and charisma that we come to expect from a Disney film. As you said it really comes down to the story and the characters and which method suits them best. Tangled was best suited to CGI rather than the traditional Disney style I'm sure The Princess and the Frog could have been made in CGI but I think it would have been at the expense of the story a lot of CGI animation use CGI as part of the story instead of using it to compliment the story itself.

exactly. Used to enhance, not 100% create. Am all for this kind of integration, in fact I'd encourage it.

Pixar seem to be the only company being truly creative and pushing the capability bounds of technology, so I can forgive the out and out CGI use as the visual's are stunning. They, to me, are the exception to the rule/my point.

CGI only works, IMO, where you have texture i.e. the shine of Car's, the fur/scales of Monsters Inc, Rapunzel's Hair, the lava in the cave of wonders etc. texture, realistic or not, is damn hard and near impossible to create by hand drawings but in terms on Tangled, I cant see any problem with her entire world and all character's being created by traditional animation. IMO it would have worked perfectly (aside from her hair as its a focal/main part of the movie and just HAD to look good)

I guess Tangled being CGI is my only complaint really as I was extremely impressed by the story (it grew on me) to the point its now one of my fave Disney classics, but I just prefer Disney 2D and see little point for Disney to do full CGI movies themselves. They have a style so why not re-invent as they have done over the years, instead of completely alter the method.

Well, it is worth noting that the reason Tangled was produced in CGI is because the hair was far too difficult to draw, and this also possibly the reason why we haven't had a Rapunzel Disney film until now.

Tangled/Snow White blu doublepack dispatched this morning.

My mum ordered it, but I thought I'd share as she doesn't have a blu-ray.com account. I can't see her fitting in here.
